According to Pierre LeBrun it appears the St. Louis Blues have had their cake and get to eat it, too...

With Porter clearing waivers his path to the Chicago Wolves of the AHL is clear. The return trip won't be nearly as smooth.

Yes, the new CBA eliminated re-entry waivers, but he's now going head to head directly against more skilled recall options like Dmitrij Jaskin (who Ken Hitchcock said he wouldn't hesitate to bring up), Ty Rattie, and Sergey Andronov that are completely exempt from waivers. Not to mention another tweener veteran, Keith Aucoin, could travel back and forth just as easily as he can.

To compound the situation for the gritty forward, the plethora of options at the NHL level may keep him on the outside looking in. If a top three line winger goes down another can slide in, ie Vladimir Sobotka or Magnus Paajarvi and the Blues won't have to recall anyone. Since they're carrying 14 forwards to start the season it won't be until the third significant injury that someone will need to make the trek down the length of Illinois.

The reduced salary cap strikes down another.
