Brad Mills is not on a tryout. He is already under contract to the IceHogs on an AHL deal for this season.

So JJ,

You have Pirri not even making the team? Even after all the Hawks PR about how he is ready for his shot on the big club?

John Jaeckel: Hawks Drop One In OT
- John Jaeckel

That leaves 28 players in camp, with 9 players essentially—Brad Winchester, Jimmy Hayes, Jeremy Morin, Brandon Pirri, Joakim Nordstrom, Ryan Stanton, Theo Peckham, Mike Kostka and Ben Smith—competing for three roster spots.

FYI - Peckham and Winchester were both put on waivers this morning. Beach cleared waivers.

Shalunov was also assigned to Rockford's camp. Could there be an ELC or AHL contract in the works for him?

Also, my condolences to you regarding your friend.

Presently, I'd put my money on Smith, Morin and Nordstrom.

Who of the other three does he beat out?

He couldn't beat his way out of a plastic bag, heck, he couldn't even skate near it without feeling wobbly at the knees.

I'm sorry that you lost your friend. Hopefully hockey can provide a bit of an escape for you and ease the pain a little.

I gotta believe there is going to be a trade made sometime between tonight and Saturday night to move a body who can play at the NHL level, just not with the Hawks.

>Think Hossa's health plays a large role in which forwards make it
>If Hoss is healthy, it helps Pirri's chances as Hoss covers the ice like a center on defense
>Smith gets a lot of love on this board, seems like a nice kid too -- but his hands say 4th liner -- not sure he will get it done as Frolik's replacement on the PK either
>Morin has a top-flight shot and hands and can play up and down the lineup -- one of the few Hawk forwards who delivers a check now and then -- wish he would not lose interest playing D in his own zone and stay focused
>Hayes has improved his skating tremendously, but would still like to see more "stop and start" to his game
>Nordstrom has a solid all-around game and great chemistry with Kruger -- think he would be a better PKer long-term than Smith
>It will be a bitter time in their career for whomever doesn't get handed an Indianhead jersey

Q is high thinking Zus will repeat what he did last season here.

Guy skates like a goat & has zero business being in the top 6.

It's been a while. I have been vacationing in Spain and I am currently in Morocco.
I am a little sad to see Pirri getting cast off, but you can't improve your skating significantly at this stage. Of course, if your player is Doug Glatt and all you want is for him to stand upright to trade punches.....anyway....So Nordstrom is Kruger with a better nose for the goal? Hopefully, being on the same line with Kruger will help Krugman show his offensive skill. I will always remember Krugers amazing goal on Rask. Hopefully, we see more plays like that.

How many chances will you get to be up close and personal to The Stanley Cup???

Get your tickets to the inaugural Hockeybuzz outing to the Rockford Ice Hogs on October 27th! It will be a blast....

Things you will definitely see...

Watch Ekolb get red faced and crabby when someone ask why Pirri isn't the second line center......

Watch Ogi choke on peanuts when you mention the value of Patrick Sharp......

Hear me say NO! to you in person when you say something stupid.....

All in all great family fun.....and good hockey...get your tickets today!

thought winchester & peckham were picked up to offset the bullsh it, especially winchester who could definetly play. some one will pick him up. too bad because once he see's Hayes & a couple of others can't hack it, they'll be looking around themselves for a bottom 6 gritty vet. I see st. louis has issues also with space , interesting to see if Ryan Reeves becomes available. wouldn't mind seeing him & Bollig together on the same line to keep guys honest out there.

Shanahan is really a joke:

Kessel with (a) 2 stick swinging incidents this week, and (b) very dangerous slashes on Scott (certainly, admittedly, a butcher) - 3 PRE -SEASON game suspension.

Two incident of using a stick in an attempt to injure and no regular-season games off?

Shanahan said one of the swings on Scott was self-defense, and no suspension history.

But two incidents, and a free-swing to Scott's legs (while Scott was being occupied by other Leafs)....
