its just good for the league to have stable ownerships

nothing is worse than the business of a sport weighing down the actual sport

Couldnt agree more. I will add in that it would be a shame to move a team either way but the Devils are a fairly successful franchise compared to the Coyotes or Predators or Thrashers I think it would sting a bit more if they where to be moved

Good to see. Could never have imagined why/how they would ever get moved. Some teams make sense to relocate... NJ is not one of them.
Wonder how this will impact the product they're able to put on the ice?

Glad its all figured out for New Jersey.
Although, when I read it quick I thought of Josh Harris from Deadliest Catch. He'd make an interesting owner.

personally i think relocation is needed some times. Flordia doesnt and never did need two teams move one out of there, and if the yotes fail under new ownership just pack up and leave town.

Its teams with deep histroy like the islanders, devils and so on that would be a shame to move just because of current troubles that are potentially solvable

I agree and I am not a leafs fan and unless it was the devils that got moved to toronto I wouldnt cheer for the team but I think T.O should have another team when you talk about l.a having 3 and florida having 2 its kind of crazy or insane

As much as it would suck to see the Devils moved (and as unlikely as it seems now), there is one sort of obvious reason that the league might support moving them. The league might want to attract new fans in an untapped market. Despite the Devils having a small and loyal fan base, the market of fans that should be Devils fans are mostly either Rangers fans in North Jersey, or Flyers fans in South Jersey. If the team was moved, over time I think current members of the Devils fan base would slowly turn into either Rangers or Flyers fans, and the league would still be taking advantage of that market, despite their team being moved.

Except the devils own their own arena that is very successful. Makes no sense to separate the two.

Thats a great point, there isnt really much interest in the Devils, about as much as a florida team.....

And yet they continued to lose money. Even with 3 cups since 95 they have consistently lost money. They owned their own building and still lost money and now the islanders are closer and are a team finally with promise.

Tough to make an argument that the ny market should have 3 teams and TO 1. Quebec still does not have one. I would be a little hesitant about this ownership group. They have been an absolute train wreck so far with the Sixers and have not exactly been honest with their fan base.

Also, someone mentioned the Preds on here. I've been down there for a few games. Their fans are tremendous and do not have 3 cups in 18 years.

I'm not advocating moving the Devils, but it does actually make sense to move them to a new market like Seattle, Portland, Quebec, Kansas City, etc. Markham actually wouldn't make sense, because a Markham team to Toronto would be like a Newark team to New York. They'd just be building on a market that they already have.

Fact the vast majority of the debt was for building the arena and interest payments the devils never lost a big amount of money any year since the move but several yrs of small losses but also some with positive income

That's simply inaccurate. Their team debt in 2011 was over 80 million without the building. That does not include annual interest payments on the building of over 10 mill. They struggled to restructure debt incurred because of team opp ex.

They had another loan payment of 77 mill for the building.
