the sabres rebuild will take a lot longer than 3 years man.
Take it from a leafs fan, it's painful, but it's not something you can rush. |

There rebuild will take as long as it takes them to string together a few top 5 picks. Let's face it, no top free agent is going to want to come to buffalo right now and the sabres certainly aren't willing to trade picks and prospects for high end playersso until they get great draft picks, they're going to suck. Chicago built there team through the draft and so did Pittsburgh and La. And since I always bring up the avalanche in 5 years hopefully people will say that's how the avalanche rebuilt. It's been an annoying 3 years watching the Avs rebuild but it has to happen eventually so just get it over with |

4 years in , the avs bottom six sucks, the defense is one of the worst in the league... nobody really cares about the avs, wait until garth blogs about them, should be one coming up shortly. |

Bottom six sucks?
McGinn Mackinnon Downie sucks? Even our fourth line is good grinders. Yeah our defense sucks but I mean...your named after a 2nd round pick who puts up 20 points in the ahl. Can't wait till dats and zetty retire and your rebuild starts |

If they do it right, it should really only take 3-4 years. Of course, that timeline is dependant upon certain players reaching their potential and other players bouncing back.
Likely have another 2 1st round picks in this years draft so on paper, things are looking good (though I guess that really doesn't mean much to most of the older fans here). |

I'm sure if the opportunity presented itself, they would definitely do that. The reality is, if Miller and Vanek went to Darcy and said they wanted to stay they would be signed that same day.
And if franchise player was available via trade like Seguin was I'm sure they'd explore that option as well. I don't think Darcy wants to rebuild because he doesn't like his team. I feel like he's doing it out of necessity due to the fact that neither of his two best players want to be here. |

I just read this blog as painful as it was and the lack of depth and breadth of it is just astounding. It sounds like you're a politician Kevin. You are trying to be a writer, what you write is not going to please everyone so stop trying to. You are writing very insecurely and that leads to, well, what you are currently pushing out. Controversy is exciting so quit trying be loved by all.
Keep plugging away Kevin; read more, write less. |

you're closer than other teams were when they decided on the full rebuild.
depending a lot on myers, I think u could be a playoff team in a couple seasons and within striking distance of a contending team in 4 |

Just need another guy or two up front that can finish
And for one of our young goalies to work out
It appears we're building a team that's going to be very tough to play against
And I like the idea of that a lot
Those are the type teams that win in the playoffs |

You might be able to shave off a few years if you trade Vanek and Miller for some early picks. Keep Enroth, Foligno, Griggs, Ennis, Ott, Hodgson, Myers and Ehrhoff. Try and unload everyone else at the trade deadline for any picks you can get and hope to hell you tank hard enough the next few years to land MacDavid. You guys have a good base, but too many players that wouldn't crack the 4th line on some of the top teams in the league. I like Buffalo, they have some of the best fans in the NHL, but the only thing they have to remember is that rushing to make the playoffs just to get bumped in the first round just means your drafting in the bottom of the first round every year. |

I wish Vanek would finish his career in B-low....if people are talking a 3-4 year rebuild as well a needing "veteran leadership" I think we have a puzzle piece on our team all ready....Unfortunately, he's got an agent whispering in his ear with dollar signs in his eyes and I can't blame him for going for the prize. I think a second contract with Vanek on the 2nd line with some talent would alleviate the pressure on him, allow him to play against other than top line talent and be on a contender, or at least a playoff team, surrounded by kids in 3 or 4 years. The reality is, if i were to bet my own hard earned cash on weather or not Vanek will be here by the trade deadline, I would bet he wont be. It's too bad. It speaks volumes about the management and the organization. I hope he goes to the Wild. I lived in Minneapolis for 4 years and hockey fans there love him. I can't believe I'm chomping at the bit to see this season start while also being fully aware of how miserable it's going to be. |

They still lack alot of good young forwards.
Got some good young defenceman in the draft this year.
I don't think they have a viable option to replace miller as a Franchise goaltender. I am not sold on Enroth as that guy and I don't care what Garth says its probably not Hackett either. I think it might not be a bad idea to go out and get a good young goaltender either through the draft or in say a Vanek trade.
I think honestly if they do this right it can be a 2 year ish rebuild. Alot riding on what they do with their two best players, Vanek and Miller and who Tyler Myers really is.
There's my honest take on their rebuild. |

Everytime I come here, there is a Kevin/Garth blog right near the top of the page, with zero information and both blogs lacking any kind of anything worth reading. Pretty embarrassing, I sure as hell hope we suck big time this year. |

I hardly ever post, but I'm going to now to add voice to this.
Kevin, you'll get more people from Garths blog through time and by using real grammar and holding back on outlandish man-crushes like Garth (i.e Briere, Stasney, Iginla, etc)
But please, I'd rather read 1 decent, well thought out blog by you every day or every other day, than a diluted, weak update every 4 hours in a leapfrog contest. It's grabby. You're going to be top blogger in not too far, but don't sacrifice on the things that sets you apart from the Garth - quality and clarity of thought. |
