I'd like to see him back to finish his career as a Sabre. I've always hated seeing him in the orange. Actually, I've always hated seeing the orange period.

So you will be dissapointed when we have Veteran Leadership??? Pits had some older veterans on the team when they won the cup. Edm has been one of the youngest teams in the NHL for several years now... Look at there success...

You need some Veterans to help show the way to the rookies.

I want to be bad next year so I don't care. Would be nice to try and get the first overall pick next year, and maybe even the year after. Who doesn't want Connor McDavid?

Losing that much can really take a toll on young players... Again look at Edm.

I would bring back Breire to the sabres on a 2 year contract at a cap hit of 3,500,00 per year.

What proof is there that Briere was/is a leader. I've heard Rob Ray say on a few occasions that Briere wasn't much of a captain and that the Sabres were really all Drury's team. I honestly have no idea one way or another. I've just heard Ray say that a couple times over the years

I'm not interested in bringing him back. Aren't we rebuilding anyway?

Why would he want to come back? I'd really question him for wanting to come here. He obviously has lost interest in winning a cup if he comes back.

People need to realize that he's not the player he was 6 years ago. He's not even the player he was 2 years ago

I would probably be ok with that. I just don't want them to bring in Briere as a way to try and convince Vanek to stay. No matter what they do w/ Briere, Vanek and Miller need to go.

Again, why would Briere even entertain the idea of coming here? Doesn't he want a Cup before he retires?

He might be a good role model for the young guys(on top of being a good player if healthy). He's gonna get Paid pretty good no matter where he goes-nothing crazy, but good.

Agreed Miller needs to go... Not Vanek. Problem is Vanek doesn't wanna resign.

If Vanek agreed to resign why would we wanna move the best player offensively on the team? I think he still has another 5-6 years of being a top guy.

I'm not talking about Briere in general... I'm simply saying its not a great idea to have a roster with no veteran presence and leadership.

Also all I know is that when we had Briere we were a legit contender. Obviously Drury was the bigger leader but I gotta believe Briere had some leadership.

I don't like paying Vanek 8 million in 1 year, let alone in 6. Vanek gets banged up more and more every year. Just a hunch but I think we will see a steady decline with Vanek over the next few years. Especially as injuries become more regular.

I am more interested in what kind of return we can get for him than I am in an overpaid aging player entering the downside of his career

We were a legit contender because of the overall talent on the roster and the style of play being endorsed by the league for a brief period. Losing Briere wasn't the only reason we regressed. Losing Drury, Briere, Campbell and Dumont and the style of league play shifting back to the way it was pre-lockout.

I'm fine with adding a vet but, not Briere. I'd like a Mike Grier type (circa his 1st stint with the Sabres)
