Even if we take back some cap space I don't think it is a good enough deal for the Canes. Also should we give up our only top 2 d-man for a Nichuskin or Monahan? I wouldn't make the deal unless Barkov drops to no.5 or we try to trade up from there to the top 3.

Honestly I think we need to go into next year with our #1 centre spot sorted out more than anything. Doesn't mean we can't fix other areas as well but that should be our priority.

Dion is not worth the #5 pick. The Leafs rumours have them in on everything so take what Dregger said with a grain of salt. I doubt Phaneuf get's traded, especially to Carolina who has cap issues.

The Leafs may trade up to #9 or #10 but I don't see them finding a right fit with any team before that.

Also, it will cost you a prospect like Biggs, Reiley, or Gardiner. Dion is not a guy who is going to be highly coveted around the league. I don't know anyone who thinks Dion at $6.5 is a great deal.

Holzer was a shutdown beast for the Marlies. I feel confident enough to say that as soon as he adjusts to the NHL speed, he'll be a solid 5-6 guy

The AHL game is so much slower though, and Holzer really doesn't have the speed of feet (or thought) to keep up with the NHL IMO

Yea, who would want a big, physical, 2way dman who can play 25+ minutes a night, including the top power play and pk(and who is top-10 in dman scoring)
