Be interesting to see what Hemsky fetches us. Do you think he'll be gone at the draft Richard?
As for Horcoff.. oh vey.
MacT I think has made the wrong move by going public now. Should have kept things close to his chest and then made the deals. People now know he's desperate and are definitely going to take advantage of that.

Stafford, #8 for Horcoff, #7, ANA 2nd rounder or 2014 2nd rounder
bad deal? |

Richard Cloutier: More Hemsky/Horcoff + Random Thoughts - Maxbone
Good blog and I agree with some of it.
My opinion on Horcoff is one of the big differences here.
The supposition that Horcoff won't want to play for the Oilers now that MacT has "dropped the bomb" depends on the idea that Horcoff had no knowledge of where he stood, and had no input into MacT's message. I think both are false. Horcoff knew that was coming, and we know that he knew because MacT told us that they had talked and this was how Horcoff felt.
He hasn't been spurned (further) by the team or the fans or the coach, and we know that MacT thinks very highly of him. If Horcoff was at all interested in playing for the Oilers before what MacT said, I don't believe it would change now. That being said, it seems more and more likely that they'll buy him out.
Yes to Bourque, so long as that lollygagging bumhole smartens up. No freaking way to Pysyk or Leino.
I think Bickell will be both overpaid AND a good acquisition, if that makes sense. You're obliged to overpay, but 3.5 million is rarely crippling for a team, and I think he can be a solid contributor.
On the other hand, "Shawn Bozak" is going to get 4.75 million dollars per for five years from some team, and it will be an overpayment. |

I could see either Hemsky or Horcoff ending up either with the Islanders or Ottawa |

"Do you think Shawn is going to want to play for the Oilers after the GM publicly said it's time for him to go?"
Again, who cares? He has a contract. If he isn't traded or bought out, he has to play. What, is he going to hold out? If he does, they'll toll his contract. It's a business. Who cares what he wants to do. He signed a contract. |

Horcoff situation is simple,Mact don't see Horcoff as a player they need,MacT knows he can get a better/younger player with that type of Money Horcoff is getting paid,MacT is playing this whole Horcoff situation nicely by using nice words like( MacT thinks very highly of him ). |

I don't think Horcoff will be around, but if he is, he won't sit out because his feelings are hurt.
I agree that it's an economic decision. If they could restructure the contract, they would. He had better not waste the cap space we get from it though (BOZAK) and he'd better have a plan now that the only NHL centre we have to start next year is an RFA with a hard-to-nail-down cap number. |

Does Hemsky and Anaheim's 2nd rd picks gets you back into the mid to late 20's?
Does Hemsky and Edmonton's 2nd get you into the mid to late teens?
A dream perhaps. |

I think the oilers should get weiss. he was injured last year but should be good to go and would be a solid 2nd line option and then also draft a center. what about a trade with coyotes say gagner for gormley or yotes 1st?? |

Currently Gags would be our only center if the season were to start tomorrow... Gags, Lander and Lander's potential... |

In 2011, Toronto traded a 30th and 39th for a 22nd. Ottawa traded a 35th and 48th for a 24th.
In 2010, NYI sent 35th and 58th for a 30th. Montreal used a 27th and a 57th for a 22nd and 113th.
Sufficed to say heck yeah our two 2nds and Hemsky could get us a pick in the late teens. Especially if it was a cap floor team like Columbus (19th) |
