Nice policy of sharing the soapbox! (Some of these guys would really benefit from some soap.) |

Not quite.
If you trade a guy, you can retain some of the cap space.
So that's not going to help the Canucks.
Edit: that should read "cap hit" not "cap space."
I'm still working on my first cup of coffee. |

Actually, the opposite is true. For example, they can easily trade Booth for a player and retain 1 million of his contract. This hurts in the short run but it does not use a buyout.
There will be quite a few of these trades this summer.

How are you getting rid of Luongo with no money coming back? Is this a buy-out as well? If so, that's asking ownership to put up a lot of cash to ice what will probably be a pretty poopty team with some older players as its core.
I can't see Gillis surviving this. |

Unless they settle for 1 prospect or something who will only count like 600,000 but you have a good point |

The Lou deal could very well be his demise. |

That buy-out alone would cost $27m, wouldn't it. |

Waivers.
Cost the 'nucks nothing, and one GM will be stupid enough to bite. |

Francesco isn't just gonna eat 27m. If Gillis doesn't have a plan i.e.; a buyer even if we aren't gonna get something back or have to eat a bit of contract he may not make it to the draft table because I bet money a business man like Francesco Aquilini has a back up plan. |

Need a complete sweeping of coach and GM. I do not envy a new GM coming into this mess with cap going down. But honestly do u want Gillis still being decision maker on this team? Bobby Loo showed nothing but class this year. For that his reward should be to stay and peddle CS. Owner not spending big bucks for compliance buyout and any trade would result in Nucks retaining a fair bit of Loo's cap hit. More importantly cut ties with AV and MG and get fresh ideas coming from GM's chair. |

And if no one does the money is still on their books...big gamble
In the end the blog assumes that Luongo will get moved and no salary will come back, which has a slim chance of occurring |

or how about trading the twins, it's extreme but it can instantty solve your problem with the return. |

If it were only that simple. I don't think players with NTC/NMC can be placed on waivers. |

I'm tellin ya...Luongo...will be the starting goaltender next season because (A) he's still very good & (B) his contract makes it very difficult to trade him. Although guys like Zetterberg and Hossa have similar contracts, they're not trying to trade them...but I digress.
This will, hopefully, be one of the busiest summers in Canucks history. Lapierre, Raymond, Malhotra, Roy, Sestito, Pinizzotto, Booth, Barker and Ballard will all be gone from this group. Why bring back what hasn't worked?
A combination of Higgins, Hansen, Edler, Kesler, Bieksa & Schneider could and should all be used as trade bait to change this team! |

Players with a NTC can be placed on waivers, which Lu has. He does not have a full NMC, which cannot be waived without his permission...see Mike Komisarek. |

Someone, IMO, would take him on waivers, he's too good to just get for nothing. But my opinion is just like yours, we don't actually know...so neither of us is wrong or right. |

Never happen, they are the best players on the team, makes zero sense to trade them! They will and should retire as Canucks. |

To the best of my knowledge, the Canucks only have 30 players under contract for next season...this is going to be an interesting summer. |
