Good to see the Fly guys represent in'. Bill- Any chance of a blog on other potential Amnesty buyout players around the league that may become available? I know we are speculating Danny and maybe Bryz. There must be similar sentiments out there on other players.

Not too many teams will be using their compliance buyouts, at least not this year. Apart from the Flyers, the candidates are players like Leino, DiPietro, Komisarek, etc.

Hmmm... Nothing too pretty in those names. Why do you think they will be holding on to them intil next year? And do you think Bryz gets another year before they pull the trigger on him?

if bernier is available, it would be enticing to head into nxt yr w/ him and mason...prob our best chance to have consistent goaltending in a long time.

In cases like possible buyout candidates hossa, lecavalier, etc. there's no one in UFA as good to replace them, their still pretty good players so might as well get one more year out of them. But their long term contracts are still a problem

Why would you want to continue to give up assets for goaltending when you have two solid options next year? I don't get it. Also, bernier will not be cheap to obtain.

I have coveted that guy since before Bryz. Hate to see him wasting away. But if Mason can regain form then I say buyout Bryz and pick up a cheaper option for a no. 2. Then use the money for that #1 D and wing with Briere's money.

I wonder what Gus will get on his new contract? I'm thinking 1.1-1.2 per for 2 or 3 years?

Also wouldn't mind signing Redden for the blue line as a stopgap if Boston doesn't have interest. He can move the puck and is steady. I would then look to move Mez to bring back a forward or a pick.

because bryz is not the answer and mason is unproven...and cap space is an asset as well. there is always the option of a guy like backstrom or Lu if he is bought out, but i look at mcphee playing the odds w/ varly, neuwirth and holtby and he has a starter and a #1 pick to show for it. had we done the same w/ bob, by bringing in a young cohort instead of panicking and signing bryz, bob may have emerged here instead of CLB.

Mason and Bryz are proven goaltenders, but consistency has been their biggest quesion mark. Bernier has never had a number one role, so I find it ironic that you're suggesting he's more proven than the aforementioned goaltenders. Having cap space just to have it seems nonsensical to me when the UFA market is thin. I think it's also nonsensical to buyout people in hopes that someone like Luongo gets bought out and then pursue him. Backstrom is older and will still demand a high cap hit, so I don't like that option.

Leino is having hip surgery which might complicate any Buffalo plans to buy him out this offseason.

Another UFA defenseman to look for is Rosival. Very capable puck moving defenseman whose cap hit will be around 2 mil. He will be 34 YOA this summer so no worries about a 35+ contract. Solid option

i think you're overlooking what i mentioned about the caps approach and how that could have saved us the agg of the bryz situation. the contract is poison and he hasn't been worth it. after 30 yrs of mediocre or outright failure in net, having two promising young guys who already have seasoning is appealing to me.

if there are a glut of alternatives out there, it will be a buyers mkt that we can exploit. from that standpoint we'd come out of an amnesty w/ more cap space and/or more manageable term? besides, what are you hanging on to? biron-level goaltending @ almost twice the price? if it turns out that there aren't as many workable alternatives this off season, then we can live w/ bryz for another yr.

rosival is really a zilch at this point and there's no point on wasting a buyout on mez.

zero need to trade assets for goalie right now. if anything, if bryz does get bought out, just sign emery. no assets lost.

bernier has been a bit of a baby too to be honest. no thanks.

i would make a decision based on the marketplace. that will determine prices, so let's wait and see what it looks like. we know bryz is avg and maybe somewhat of an issue in the room...prob much more of an issue than bernier would ever be, but let's see what the alternative are. could anyone blame an 11th overall pick w/ his #'s for wanting a chance to start?

Check 'em. almost 2 mil left over without Prongers LTIR relief. Mez traded for Gardiner, 1% salary retained, could go higher to appeal to Toronto. Briere bought out. Clarkson signed for 4.5 mil, meaning at all times we have one of Hartnell, Simmonds, Clarkson, and Rinaldo out there. Oh my. Bryz hangs out for another season.
