What do I think? I think the Philly media is complete garbage and is extremely detrimental to the mental makeup of every pro team in the city.

Which brings us to this question this morning: amid reports - vehemently denied by players and others _ that Bryz fell asleep in a team meeting and was punished for such by being benched in the Islander game ...

...would such an incident deserve being benched in arguably the biggest game of the season by coach Peter Laviolette?

- tpanaccio

Even your cohort Seravalli stated that the meeting was held after Laviolette named the starter for that game -

After practice on Monday, Laviolette notified both Mason and Bryzgalov of his plans to start Mason.

At that point, multiple players confirmed Bryzgalov closed his eyes during the team’s brief meeting that followed him being notified.

Hard to get benched for an incident that happened after the starter is named, but whatever you need for a "story", I guess.

I don't believe it for one second. I am also not surprised that the "media" in this town that tries to report hockey has fabricated yet another anti-Bryzgalov story.

Yes, yes it is about nothing. And if he did fall asleep I don't blame him. He's played more games than any other goalie in the League and has given Philly the chance to win more than not. He has not been the problem this year but I'm sure he's felt like he's been blamed. Blamed for being paid so much and not saving the team from falling apart. What about Kimmo & Briere? They make more than Bryz and haven't kept this team in the playoffs.

It's noise. TMZ style bullpoop that serves as fodder for poopty websites that try to get pics of players drinking or for talk radio to fill a few hours, since nobody on the air knows jack poop about hockey.

I am embarrassed for the main stream media members that reported the story with such gusto, because they lower the already bad reputation of the Philly sports media.

Meanwhile, Frank Seravalli, who was the first MSM reporter to write about the stupid nap story, wrote a story today, in which Danny Briere discusses compliance buyouts. Frank half-assed the research in explaining the rules of the CBO, and made an incorrect statement. He mentioned that Scott Gomez and Wade redden were paid at 100%, then kind of backtracked, mentioning that regular buyouts are 2/3rds of the cash over double the term of the existing contract being bought out.

Well, compliance buyouts work exactly like a regular buyout. 2/3rds of the remaining money over twice the remaining length of the deal. Gomez and Redden got 100% of the cash due to them this season, as they were accelerated CBO's. The Rangers and Montreal still carry the full cap hits on Redden & Gomez for this season, then drop them next year.

Now, some might say that there was a deadline or that Frank wanted to "break" the story.

It took me six minutes to find the pertinent information. I guess Frank was napping.

I'm really glad we can count on the Flyers' beat writers to give us an accurate, factually sound description of the team's situation. Really top notch stuff. Perhaps tomorrow they can do an exposé on whether Bryzgalov has a caffeine problem!

I am much more concerned about Giroux not getting off a single shot in the latest biggest game of the year. How does that happen?

whether he did or not is irrelevant. bryz asks for the criticism he gets he has brought any bad press he gets on himself . he thinks that this is just a joke and he treats that way. he will be bought out this summer whether he deserves to be or not and he has only himself to blame

Bryz has not played the most games. Nor has he played the second most games in the league. He's only 7th in shots against, and 4th in Time on Ice. He's played a lot for sure but it seems way to many people treat Bryz like a martyr.

Also, like it or not, salary plays a huge part in expectations (especially in a cap world). If Briere was making 600k a year would he be a candidate for being bought out? No. Briere knows he will be bought out in the offseason due to his salary and level of play. There's alot less drama there because Briere isn't making a circus out of it and it's viewed as inevitable by all involved.
