I think it is the cinderella landing spot for Iggy because of that magical moment with him & Crosby last Olympics. I also think if Iggy decides to green light a trade, he is a very loyal person & it will be to a team he would be really willing to consider extending a new contract for. This is not as much of a rental as the optics make it appear to be. If Iggy really really wanted to stay in Calgary & 95% of chance of not winning a Cup, he would have extended by now. Some feel there were brief talks with his agent & Feaster already & they were far apart enough to let it ride & see what happens up to the trade deadline.
So as much of fairytale everyone would like to see of Iggy playing with Sid, the true no brainer location is Boston. His style would be a scary good fit in Boston & I could see Spooner & a 2013 1st & a conditional 2014 1st if he resigns with the Bruins & a conditional 2013 2nd if Bruins win the Cup type of deal.

I just dont know about these LA rumours, in all the years here, Iggy pretty well had most of his success with D Sutter. But Daryl style can grow old & get moldy on players after awhile. I'm really not sure if he would want to reunite with Daryl again. That is a real tough call, he could be closer than many think , who knows.

The other landing spot if we are just spitballing common sense to me is believe or not & I think this would be blasphomy, because I will pull for any team Iggy would get traded to (until he won his Cup anyway) would be Vancouver. He lives in Kelowna in the offseason, played junior in Kamloops & has lots of friends & family there & boy would he add a dimension to Vanc. I can never see us trading with Vanc unless it was a gross overpament & I wonder if Schneider & a 1st for Iggy & if he doesnt sign with Vanc. give Vanc a 2014 2nd back. Now that would be interesting.

as a pens fan I would love to see a move for iginla for a 2nd, kennedy, and harrington or maata. If the pens did make a rub, I would bet iginla stays in pitt at a reasonable price...

If the asking price includes Despres or any of or other top prospects, Shero will hang up the phone.

I love Iginla. but im trading for him for that price.

Personally, I do thinks he gets traded but I don't think it's nearly for the asking price that Flames expect.

I see a roster player/ decent prospect + a 1st round pick. that's it.

Pittsburgh makes a lot of sense in more ways than one.

Calgary probably wants a 1st round pick in the package for Iginla. That said, let's look at some of the players who have been moved for 1st round picks recently:
-Paul Gaustad to Nashville (Preds also got a 4th round pick in that deal)
-Kyle Quincey to Detroit (Detroit also gave Tampa a prospect)
-Jeff Carter to LA (Jack Johnson also went the other way)

Also consider the ransom that Minnesota (to New Jersey) and Phoenix (to Columbus) paid last year for Marek Zidlicky and Antoine Vermette, respectively:
-Minnesota trades Zidlicky to New Jersey. Minnesota then acquires Kurtis Foster, Nick Palmieri, Stephane Veilleux, a 2nd round pick and a conditional 3rd in the next year's draft. (It wasn't a blockbuster by any means, but that's a lot to give up for a single player of Zidlicky's pedigree.

-Columbus trades Antoine Vermette to Phoenix for Curtis McElhinney, a 2nd rounder in 2012 and a 5th in 2013.

Looking at deals like those (that went down less than or just over a year ago), it's not hard to rationalize giving the Flames a first rounder, especially if Pittsburgh wins the Cup, which they have a pretty good chance to do, according to most.

So, with that in mind, is giving the Flames a 1st round pick really that out of the question? I don't think so.

I think Iginla could be had for Despres, Kennedy and a 1st round pick. Let's not forget that if the Penguins go deep in the playoffs, the pick in question is going to be late in the first round. We're not talking about a top 10 selection here.

I think you can consider Despres to be off the table.

The 1st round pick and Kennedy...fine...but Shero has been pretty clear that he won't be trading any of the defensive prospects unless someone comes back that isn't a rental. That has been his M.O. with the Neal and Kunitz deals.

I don't seethe Pens giving up Despres or Morrow. They've got plenty of great defensive prospects to send Calgary's way but they won't be too risky without having Letang signed to a long term contract.

Kennedy could go. Possible.

The first rounder seems steep with what's listed above for a rental but I could easily see conditions for the pick based on how deep the Pens go or if they resign Iggy. I could even see triggering picks based on both criteria. For example a 2nd rounder that converts to first rounder if Iggy resigns AND a 2014 3rd rounder if they make the Conference Finals (4th if second round).

If I'm Feaster, I play off both possibilities.

the pens i think would move morrow or despres. Pittsburgh has possibly 4 or 5 of the top 30 defencemen prospects. this is what acquiring those assets is for, to make a move like this for a player that they think will put them over the top. the ultimate goal is to win the stanley cup. if that means overpaying alittle bit then so be it.

No Despres, No Morrow, No Poulliot, No Harrington, No Matta

So if your going to make proposals, Keep that in consideration

Why does an organization need that many top defensive prospects? There's no room for all of them on your roster.

There's a declining pool of players that are even available, let along pending-UFAs. What Calgary gets will depend largely on the number of teams interested...which I believe will be a lot. They'll get what they want, because one team will take the risk to out-do the others. Lots of teams need help, but won't get ANY if they aren't willing to pay in a seller's market.
