Peter, am I reading this right?

Kane is in the doghouse?

What is the coach expecting that he's not providing. I've only seen a few Jets games this year but what I've seen of Kane he's played well.

Good blog, and I agree! IMO he'll be a solid second pairing guy(like he was before the trade) in the right system and when given a fair chance.

Solid blog. So miss you as the nux guy. I think Ballard would be a nice fit with the Jets. Hainsey is solid.

It appears the only two players ever in Noel's doghouse are Kane and Burmistrov and it rarely happens.

I'd prefer a young right handed Dman. Even though Hainsey isn't bad but we have enough left side guys.
Need a right handed PP specialist IMHO.

I'm really unsure of why Ballard was scratched. He's finally looked good this year

I miss your Canuck writings, but appreciate Esplen's work aswell. I personally think Ballard is a hell of a 5-6 defenseman in Vancouver. I know the Canucks are deep on the blueline, but Ballard should not be healthy scratched. He's to good a defensman. He's poised, never really screws up. He can skate the puck end to end, cooly exits the zone. He's a crisp passer. He delivers great hip checks. He's actually underatedly tough and gets under guys skin. I dont undersand why he doesnt get more responsibly. He's never been given the chance to succeed in Vancouver. Vigneault just doesnt like to use him, never has. Its quite sad because he says the right things and seems outwardly as a good team mate. I don't get the hate for this guy.

I know Corey Perry hates Ballard because he's always played him hard. I know on the NHL website, Perry's favorite city in the NHL is Vancouver. I know the Canucks need to clear some cap space if there ever going sign a guy like Perry.

Also looking to next year, the Canucks have a guy in there system playing for the Kitchener Rangers named Frankie Corrado, he outplayed Ryan Murray in the team Canada camp and was the last cut because of politics. He's a right handed defenseman that could make the Canucks out of junior, and give them a right handed shot on there 3rd pairing. Tanev looks to be destined to be a top 4 defensman on this team moving left handed Garrison to the 3rd pairing.

Hamhuis Bieksa
Edler Tanev
Garrison Ballard/Alberts/Barker

I like the Jets, i lived in Winnipeg for 5 years and have a soft spot for the city. I don't know who could be returned in a trade. Bermistrov straight up, Postma maybe aswell. I like Peluso too.

I don't watch many TB games here in Vancouver, but I'm sure you're well aware of the needs(top 4 RD, playmaking forward for Kesler, 3rd line center, gritty top 9 forward would all be useful).

You're the one in the bidding war with the Jets so shoot!

Ill take Sami Salo back, lol. Seriously, the Canucks should of kept signing him to 1 year contracts but they tryed to low ball him with his salary. I think the Canucks really thought they were gonna get Justin Schultz, didnt happen. They already set Salo free so they settled with Garrison, who isnt a right handed shot. Now they have to many left handed shots and Ballard doesnt seem to fit in with Vigneault. Id offer Ballard at 31 for Salo straight up, even if Salo's fragile and 38. Salo's a legend.

No deal. We love Salo. He's completely helped to transform Hedman's game.

I dont blame you. I know he's very underrated, he was the Canucks best defensman for many years. His shot is deadly and he's a good playoff performer. Very poised and clutch. He is missed. Thats what Salo does, he stabilizes a blue line. In the Olympics, Salo is usually Finlands #1, 1A defensman paired with Timmonen.

To be fair, any trade with Ballard involved is going to be a lateral move at best for the Canucks (something like Tessier has described). You're not going to fill a big roster hole with Ballard's return. It's a shame, because Ballard is actually a good player given the right situation. He had a great year with the Panthers.

I dont really see any players on Tampa Bay that Yzerman would want to trade for Ballard. Malone jumps out at me, I think that could be a fair trade. Dont think they trade a heart and soul guy like that though.

Plus the Canucks can't afford both him and Booth IMO.

Tampa could probably get Ballard for a 2nd rounder. The Canucks used a 1st rounder (Quinton Howden) to get him, i think Grabner aswell. Damn the Canucks overpayed for him. But sadly, Ballard's trade value has dropped, even though he's probably a more complete and wiser player then he's ever been, just not getting the opprutunity on a deep blue line.

A second rounder would be nice in a deep draft.
