I don't know if Penner would do well in Edmonton, even with his Hollywood success. Connolly is just plain injury-prone and I don't feel like he'll have much of a career left in him. |

wow why split smid-petry, that is very stupid of Krueger!! Potter - Petry, two right handed defenceman together, thats actually retorted!! I don't mind the trade of whitney for penner, i think penner could be a great fit on third line for now, and if someone ever gets injured could easily move up, or perhaps this could help move pajaarvi + + for a top 4 d! |

Sorry, I had the D pairings wrong. They went with Smid/Fistric and Potter/Petry last game. Tonight, apparently, it's Smid/Potter and Fistric/Petry. |

Leafs have to give the Oilers a draft pick so they can eat the contract of an injured Horcoff who sucks on the best of days?
That's gotta be the dumbest (frank)in' sh1t I've ever heard on this site! And the fact that it can came from a blogger is a disgrace. |

The only person Smytty should be mad at is himself. He has been one of the worst Oilers so far. He looks like he doesn't really care when he is on the ice, so why bother putting him in. I hope he realizes what a bunt he has been and gets back to the player the Oilers resigned. If he can't do that then send him to the A. |

Richard Cloutier: Oilers Trade Rumors? - Maxbone
Bold move with Smyth.
Like or lump it though, there are some things he does as well as any bottom 6er and better than some of our top 6 wingers - battles on the boards, making a simple dump-and-chase happen, crashing the net, and he's been an okay spot faceoff guy. It may be that he looks good doing those (few) things because the Oilers postively suck at those things, but I don't think he's liable to stay a healthy scratch for too long.
In fact, the only successful play our PP has been making recently has been Schultz from the point with Harti screening. No reason Smyth can't be a fourth liner who's trotted out on the second unit PP to stand in front of the net like he's best at. I wouldn't be opposed to him being an 9 minute ES player with a minute of PP time a game.
His best days are behind him, and he's rapidly becoming obsolete, but he could be used in strategic offensive or defensive zone situations. He's just can't play at all in transition. |

u drunk or what b'y....
" I can see what the Oilers get out of this: They get an immediate center, and a guy who has no contract at the end of this season. This would be a huge win for the Oilers. But the Leafs? They'd get an injured player who needs to be bought out at the end of this season. The Oilers would need to at least send a draft pick over as part of the deal for this to work, wouldn't they?" |

Los Angeles Kings traded Dustin Penner to the Edmonton Oilers for Colten Teubert, a 1st round selection in 2013 and a conditional 2nd round selection in 2014. |

I like the idea of the leafs "buying" a draft pick by buying out another team's player. But Horcoff doesnt make much sense. the Oilers have already paid him most of his money. Wouldn't cost much to buy him out at the end of the year.

It wouldn't cost anything if you were doing a compliance buyout.
I may be wrong, but I think Clouts' thinking was as follows: The Oil might want to do several compliance buyouts, while Toronto isn't likely to do any. We shift one of ours to you guys and compensate you with a draft pick, so that we can have two to use elsewhere. |
