Oilers Trade Rumors?

I noticed a couple fantastic ones on the web today that I must bring up...These are tremendous.

1. Ryan Whitney for Dustin Penner - The Kings stink and they need D. Someone said Matt Barry came up with this rumor, but I can't find it. Penner has only played 4 games this season, and everyone seems to hate him in LA. Both Whitney and Penner are set to become UFA's this summer.

Does this deal make any sense? For Whitney it would...He wants out of Edmonton and everyone knows it. He'll be a healthy scratch tonight for only the second time in his career. The Oilers look like a much better team without him.

As for Penner, wait, isn't MacT working for the Oilers again? Yikes. The only way this deal makes sense is if the Oilers move Hall to center for the rest of the season. You could see a Top 9 like...

L1: Penner/Nuge/Eberle
L2: Hartikainen/Hall/Hemsky
L3: Paajarvi/Gagner/Yakupov

Seriously, there have been worse ideas than this trade. LOL...but to see Penner as a member of the Oilers again? At least Penner was liked in the room by the rest of the team.

2. Shawn Horcoff for Tim Connolly - This is beyond hilarious. Don't both guys currently have some sort of NTC or NMC? Horcoff is injured and Connolly is in the minors. Not sure how this is even possible. I first read about the rumor when Brian Huddle's tweeted, asking where the rumor came from.

I can see what the Oilers get out of this: They get an immediate center, and a guy who has no contract at the end of this season. This would be a huge win for the Oilers. But the Leafs? They'd get an injured player who needs to be bought out at the end of this season. The Oilers would need to at least send a draft pick over as part of the deal for this to work, wouldn't they?

A few additional notes on tonight:

- Ryan Smyth is a healthy scratch, and word is, he's furious over it. Chris Vandevelde has been called up to be the 4th line center.

- No one picked Darcy Hordichuk off of waivers, so he's been sent to the Oilers farm team in OKC. So much for that.

Lines tonight should look something like...

L1: Hall/Nugent-Hopkins/Eberle
L2: Yakupov/Gagner/Hemsky
L3: Paajarvi/Belanger/Hartikainen
L4: Eager/Vandevelde/Petrell

D1: Nick Schultz/Justin Schultz
D2: Smid/Potter
D3: Fistric/Petry

G1: Dubnyk
