I sort of assumed the Avs brought David Quinn up just in case things went south(er) with Sacco.
He is young, seems really motived and has a pretty impressive resume. He doesn't have a ton of head coaching experience but there aren't many experienced coaches out there looking for a job (unless you want to try something like the Barry Melrose experiment).
I say give him a chance. It can't get much worse than the last three games... |

Doesn't have a lot of NHL experience but he has been coaching at various levels since 1990. |

No its not. The guys a bum and the players have quit on him again.
Avs now 25-43-6 in the NW division since Sacco took "control" of this team.
And most of those wins are from his first year. |

I really don't know who would be a good choice, chances are they'd pick someone within the organization though, which I don't think is a good idea. Roy would be a difficult situation if the team was bad under him, also I'm pretty sure he would only take the coaching job if he was also offered the GM position as well.

I agree with this, but only because I want Seth Jones. |

3 years of the coaching style of I dunno lets just see what happens out there is enough already, the longer he is coach the more he is hurting the development of our young squad. |

I wouldn't mind Quinn as an Interim coach until the off-season. Then going after Roy unless Quinn turns the team around in a noticeable way.
I'd like to believe that if we lose say 2 of the next three games, Sacco would be fired and Quinn would be given the team for the remainder of the season. But I don't hold any hope in the team or upper management admitting that quickly that Sacco has failed after giving him an extension.
What I don't want to see is O'Reilly overpaid because we are struggling.
Again, I just don't have much hope, and am thankful now that this is a short season. So watching them tank will not be nearly as long of a emotional roller coaster.
I posted this in HF last night, and it highlights some of Sacco's more 'obvious' mistakes or a conspiracy theory... one of the two. It's kind of a rant but holds some truth none the less.
So in-game line juggling is back and why the ***** does Sacco insist on putting the 4th line out for anything up to the last 30 seconds of a PP? He does it every time!!! It just negates the last shift of the PP. It really is becoming a chore to watch this team. - MikeyBroomers;58721751[/QUOTE]
Yeah... Oh and somehow Stastny ended up with 22:02 of ice time and Duchene 19:18... (Stastny spent 2M in the box as well..)
Oh and.. EJ only played 18:28 tonight? How the F.... does all of your best players ice time go down instead of up?
Are they trying to tank for Jones? I mean hes from Denver but how obvious do you really need to make it?
Oh yeah, FYI Hejda (Who was scratched and then HORRIBLE TONIGHT) got 18:35... Ahh ahh and just for an IMO, Sgarbossa has 13:29 and Jones played 18:49. How bad does Jones have to play to be REMOVED from the first line?
Sgarbossa, 1SOG 2HITS 1BLK 2FOW (Even on +/-)
Jones, -2 and 2SOG
Just saying... |

If the Avs were able to somehow get Yandle without sacrificing the first rounder, I'd be so down for that. |

If we tank for Jones, then Stastny needs to be traded for a LW,
Winger(Ryan?) - Duchene - PA
Landeskog - O'Reilly - Downie
McGinn - Bozak - Mitchell
Jones - EJ
Laugh but Bozak has not had contract talks with Toronto, is from Denver, and would be perfect as a third line center. (IM NOT SAYING WE SHOULD TRADE FOR HIM, but pick him up in the off-season.)
D. Jones should be able to be moved at the deadline for a 1st, even if it's a high 1st. Look at the past and you can see his level of forwards moved for that all day.
My other one... (O'Reilly traded)
McGinn - Stastny - Ryan (Just using Ryan as an example, but REPLACE JONES)
Landeskog - Duchene - PA
Mitchell - Bozak - Downie
Jones - EJ
Yes we need to tank to get one of the two main pieces we need for the team. So basically whatever we don't get in the draft we need to trade for. Top line forward or a #2 defender. |

Feaster and Bobby Hart arent doing your team any favours right now either. - DDM-Coga
I don't about that. Feaster has had 2 good drafts and built some depth in the prospects department.
He brought in Hudler, Cervenka and Wideman (maybe the Flames best player to date) for nothing and have made 3 decent lines that all have the potential to score.
Hartley has definitely made the team more fun to watch, hi tempo, great PP and they are outshooting/ out chancing the other team in ever game.
as they have played fewer games than anyone, little early to judge. |

I wouldnt call those good drafts at all, good when comparing them to Sutter. When you trade down in the first roudn and then take a highschool hockey player with that pick. Its a bit suspect in my mind. And I know you guys all love Baertschi but he hasnt even played 10 games in the show yet, so hes still a toss up at how well he could pan out.
I mean dont go Kadri on him, I have heard flames fan say he would have been a top 5 pick if they redrafted that year. |

O'Reilly for T.Ennis + TJ Brennan?
For those who don't know,
Ennis is a young(23), talented offensive center/winger, not physical but will go to the next, decent playmaker, speedy
20-29-49pts in his rookie year (2010-11), 15-19-34pts in 48games last season
Signed through next year at a 2.8m cap hit
Brennan is also 23, ok defensively, but talented "offensive" defenseman...
Was 2nd in AHL scoring among defensemen this season to only Justin Schultz
He's RFA at the end of this season
Thoughts?

I wouldn't do it personally, I think we need to add to O'Reilly for a single player in one of the positions we need IF hes traded to begin with. |

I've been saying the Avs need to fire Sacco for over a year and a half now. I think he's a terrible coach for this young Avalanche team.
I hope the Avs crash and burn in this shortened (what a joke) of a NHL season and go for Seth Jones in this upcoming draft to help strengthen our weak defensive core. Seth Jones could be that 1-2 defenseman for the Avs that we all thought the overrated Eric Johnson would be. |
