Heard the schedule will be very heavy on division games, maybe 7 or 8 with each other & no out of conference games, just like they did back in the shortened 95 season.

Is this official?

Excuse me if I'm cautiously optimistic about things....
the one thing I'm unsure about is if there are still free agents out there and if there would be any type of preseason.

I wouldnt be shocked in the least if the owners made sure there was some kind of an amnesty clause written into the new CBA.

Eleven teams are over the cap according to Larry Brooks which means there should be some opportunities for the Islanders to bring in a player or two. If I was the GM, the first thing I would look to do is add a defenseman who still is signed through next year. The reason is there are six defensemen (I'm counting Donovan to be on the team this year) on the roster. Two of them (Streit and Lubo) are free agents after the season and are in the mid 30's. I don't believe they will be back next year and if the Islanders get off to a slow start, I would look for Snow to trade them for picks.

They also need two power forwards. Nino is one of them but I would keep him in Bridgeport this year unless there are injuries. I think they should look for a forward for JT's line...how about Bobby Ryan? I would make a call to Anaheim and see what they would want for him. If it doesn't cost Strome, then there could be a framework for a trade. If it cost Reinhardt, Nelson and a player on the roster maybe I would do it.

In the summer,I would look to probably add another defenseman and hope one of the young d-men they drafted are NHL ready. Upfront, I would think Strome and Nino to be the start of the makings of the second line. Goaltending and coaching will also have to be addressed. Are Poulin and/or Neilsen ready and is DiPietro bought out?

Goaltending has to be addressed? The address for our net is #20. Poulin could maybe play backup, but like it or not DP is going to "start" there.

Knowing these jokers, they'll argue over the font in which to do that. I hear Bill Daly is willing to "die on the hill" for sans-serif.

Ok...downeaster is right. There are two amnesty buyouts that won't count against the Cap, one can be used after this season and the other after next season.

Knowing Wang, DP will "prove" he's healthy by playing in like 3 games and DP will not be bought out.
The rule is all about guys like DP, so Wang better use this clause.

Hopefully the Isles make a move a two. Have to keep the good feelings about Brooklyn going. I would like to keep Nino down all year. I would think Strome and Nino can make the team next year and I hope DP is bought out. Poulin should be the backup for this year and let Nilsson run with it in Bridge.

Potvin I cannot see how the Isles do not use it for DP. Either that or convince him to retire. Cannot have this DP mess until the contract is up. Isles moving to Brooklyn so the team cannot act minor league anymore. Time to act like the big boys.

Agreed...goaltending needs to be addressed but I would wait to the summer. Let see if Neilsen or Poulin are ready. The Islanders have a lot of holes to fill but I think they don't have to bring alot of mediocre free agents to fill them.

Oh...hahaha...I was being sarcastic. They BETTER use it on him. Like I said, the clause is in the CBA just for guys like him.

I knew it Potviin Also the whole idea of moving to Brooklyn was to allow the Isles to do things differently and it was not the same small market Isles. Even though there are not in Brooklyn yet they should start acting big time now.

When a team struggles to make it to the salary floor, buying players out and having to replace that money to gt back to the flor isn't as simple as some of you make it sound

Here are some tweets:

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 34m
NYI likely to have Ryan Strome and Griffin Reinhart in camp altho final decision on that is still pending.

BDGallof @BDGallof 32m
For #isles this is all about growth, development/positioning themselves for the big year of 2013/14 onward -pressure for rebuild fruition

BDGallof @BDGallof 28m
no value in cleaning cap space via amnesty buyout for #isles bc will have to pay 2/3 anyway. Next season/after cap room more valuable
