Thank goodness we got a new blog. Was starting to wonder what we'd have to talk about with the lockout and all. Def need to write blogs daily. Might even need two a days.

hahahaha UNREAL!!!! i saw he was suspended and wasnt that upset, thinking it was cuz it was something physical (which is the one "knock" on his game), and knowing that next year he may be playing with the isles...but then i read it, (frank)ing crazy!!!! a minor penalty is a 4 game suspension..wow!!!

We are as close to canceling the season as we are to to ending the the lock out.

Remember we are dealing with maniacs on both sides!

its posturing....no way the owners and players are dumb enough to lose an entire season; its already going to be a BIG challenge getting fans back...losing an entire season could be devastating for the sport...they cant be that dumb, can they??

We will see shortly.

This lockout isnt just about the CBA.

The day the players voted Fehr to represent them, the owners dug their heals in.
This lock out is about who will run the NHL in the future. The Players or the Owners. The owners will not relinquish power to the union.

Had this just been about money. I believe we would have been watching Islanders Hockey back in October.

Thats the way I see it. How about you?

i dont necessarily disagree...i just think the one think the nhl and pa agree on (or at least should agree on) is there will be WAY TOO MANY fans pissed if the season is canceled. egos aside, gotta take the offer by next friday.

worst case scenario is the season canceled, people will start realizing they dont NEED hockey in their lives...would be HUGE damage to the sport.

I don't think Don Fehr cares about the fans or the sport. Do you think this guy's a hockey fan? I don't. I'm not saying the owners are right and players are wrong, I'm just saying Don Fehr is Don Fehr, and he won't lose much sleep if the season's canceled and the NHL's reputation is tarnished for years.

Edit -- I guess my point is Fehr's not there for the sake of hockey or the fans...he's there specifically to win this war. After it's over, he'll walk away and we'll never hear about him again wrt hockey. He's the only one in the argument who won't have to live with the fallout, so I don't think fan anger factors into his strategy at all.

The biggest issue seems to be pensions.

Owners want the players to do their own pensions with their money.

Players want the owners to take it from their money.

Plus there is too much of a difference between the Canadian system and the American system when it comes to pensions and gov't.

All Canadian teams are against it.

The best way to handle this would be they each contribute an amount to a fund and let the NHLPA handle the money any way they want.

Make their own investments!!!

It doesn't look like either side will do the deal until the very last minute... so the 9th or 10th @ best!!!

Fans are pissed now. Much more than during the last lockout.

It will take time to recover regardless whether the season starts this month or next October.

I think its about 50/50 who the fans blame. Owners or Players.

Eh, if the "biggest issue" wasn't pensions now, it would be something else. Yesterday TSN was saying next year's salary cap was the issue. They'll find something to keep arguing about until, as you said, the last minute, when they'll either do a deal or cancel the season.

I dont know maybe I am in the minority here since I dont want the season to start. This is the best year the ISlanders ever had for like forever. They are tied for the best team in the NHL right now and if the Playoffs started today we would be a number 1 seed. This is what I always envisioned and it is happening. Also no DP I mean it cant get any better. Another year off that ridiculous contract.

Here is the Griffin Reinhart high stick that cost him a 4 game World juniors suspension: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfGnMxuBo3E

You be the judge if it rode up up Trocheck's stick or he just whacked him in the head.
