Everytime we get a good discussion going, a new blog gets put out and the old blog becomes irrelevant. Well, im bringing the old discussion back cause its real hockey talk....
Lecavelier will be bought out if they add in the buyout clause in the new CBA!!!
Plus you don't want that contract!!!
- jimmc7722
The guy still has elite talent. For most other teams id say he's not a "do". But, for the salary basement isles, in need of a top tier winger for Tavares, i'd say its a good fit. The guy has 4-5 good years in him. The isles arent in the position to be getting value year after year............if you want to seriously compete, you need players like that. You cannot win from the draft alone. Getting a guy like that makes a statement, both on the ice and off the ice. When other UFA's see the isles take that contract on, they wanna get paid too, and suddenly the isles dont look so bad, with a new arena and some star power.

He is slowly declining... he's not the player he was 3 or 4 years ago.
If he was bought out, and it was a short term deal. Then sure... but I'm not sure if he could play the wing.
He might end up being your second line centre!!!
But I wouldn't trade for that contract.

Hes not the same player because he's no longer the "go to" guy. Its no secret that the minute Stamkos started becoming the elite player he is, that Lecaveliers numbers were down. Stamkos was getting the ice that Vinny L used to get. Change of scenery and a player like Tavares I feel, will bring Lecavelier back to 40 plus goal scorer. When you're spending next to nothing, i have no problem bringing in Lecavelier and his contract for 4 years. His name alone will attract player interest. Not to mention his on ice leadership, which this team is lacking. Im not talking about a veteran who's sub par, and who will just fight..........im talking about a dynamic player who can win the game with 30 seconds remaining.
When the isles have played the Rangers over the last 10 or 15 years, whenever the isles have been up a goal with a few minutes remaining the Rangers take it to them. Its as if the ice is lopsided, and the isles are on their heels. The reason for this is star power...........those star players are able to take over. The isles need that. For once, id like to see the isles dominate the game with a min remaining......a player like Lecavelier will help this team more than hurt... |

His current contract is a little longer than 4 yrs... and I don't think Vinny will ever be a 40 goal scorer.
But... like I said if he is bought out, and signed a better deal.
Anyway... Nino looking more like Nino lately...lol.
When the NHL starts up... Nino should not even be considered @ this point.
He definately needs a full year in the "A" |

Including this year he has 4 years remaining.............PA parentheau had 30 goals with Tavares..........Lecavelier a former 50 and 40 goal scorer playing with Tavares will reach that 40 goal mark again. Is he the same player he was 7 years ago, no, but he is exactly the kind of player the isles need, and they have the cap space. If the isles are serious about competing they will need to take on a contract that is crappy. Its not about the money now, its about bringing in the right players to help this team get to the next level. Serious teams dont balk at contracts. Heck the isles payed Yashin the same money, and they have similar points.........only Lecavelier plays with heart, and if my memory serves, dropped the gloves a few times with Iginla, and once with Chara. Tavares needs that...
Nino and Nelson are really looking great.......hopefully a sign of things to come. |

Not sure how hard it will be as we all know the isles have the cap space, and Tampa may not wanna spend 10 shmil on him with Stamkos leading the way.

Problem is the Islanders will never get him. I dont know why people think they will. Remember Wang still owns the team. |

Teams might wanna dump salary........if thats the case, the isles should be participating.
My point was Lecavelier is the kind of player the isles should be putting next to Tavares.... |

Its the fact that Lecavelier isnt the same player with a large contract that makes him appealing for this team going forward. It fills the need of top line winger, who wears the C, and is N American. His name alone would generage interest from other top UFA's. If PA can score 30 goals with JT, VL would easily do the same. |

I don't disagree with you a hundred percent. I just think if we are going to be the FA magnet that some of you guys are thinking there may be better options? His leadership, being a captain on a cup team and everything else you stated are all valid points which I agree with. I know we have no worries about cap space but if we are going to be spending to the cap and everything else you guys are saying lately(which I honestly don't agree with)his contract is a bit of an albatross. This move with Brooklyn is of course going to help with the validity of the team but it's going to take some time to gain respectability from around the league IMO. Don't forget who our owner and GM are. That unfortunately I believe is still going to have a negative impact on FA's, coaches, etc. This teams moves for the most part have been completely bone headed and bush league for a long time. That is not going to vanish into thin air anytime soon with a move to Brooklyn. It's a great hope to have but that is all it is, a hope. I hope to be proven wrong, believe me. |
