The Canadian and true fans will return. Just like when other strikes happen, they all come back. Since the last issue, the league has grown and prospered, why would it not continue to do so. The labour dispute will only slow that growth down for a few months. I miss the NHL.

I'm not sure in the states people will come back so easily especially if we lose this season totally. I haven't paid for my tickets yet and might not if they come back. If I go to games I can use stub hub and probably save money. Many of my friends are pissed . I'll be fine watching more games on tv. The arrogance of the owners is incredible .

See, I don't agree. The owners should be allowed to make some money, it is their team. The players can be replaced. They should be happy to be playing in North America and for a great deal of that owners money, 57 - 50 % of the PROFITS. Crazy.

I agree that the players needed to make concessions. And they did to 50-50. I mean more on the side that the NHL and owners think fans are going to come back like this is nothing. All their projections with revenue are based on 5% increase in revenue. I'm not so sure they will get that 5% or even close for a while. I don't think asking for 50-50 was wrong. But the players agreed to it. These guys risk their lives sorta. Look at the head injuries and players passing away due to head trama and depression. Rypien, belak, Boogard...

And without fans, you have $0 because sponsors aren't going to Sponsor you if you have no fans to advertise to

How ?? The owners signed them to these contracts?! The bumhole from Minnesota spent $196 million on two players and two weeks later is crying that the players make too much. How is that the players fault ? They agreed to taking a 7% pay cut basically...

Its going to take another five years for hockey to regain its popularity back in the states by that time there will be another lick out. Just like the last one.

I agree with you............a deals a deal. All existing contracts should remain the same. How anyone can argue otherwise is out of their minds. Imagine if our bosses wanted to change the terms on our salaries at work. Imagine singing a deal with your boss, only to have him try and take away a percentage of that agreed upon amount? Its ludicrous...

Yes. Especially If a team struggles. Look at dallas. How can they do well with a mediocre team in a city with the cowboys, mavericks and Texas rangers ? They are the 4th team by far

Exactly. Listen fehr and the nhlpa are far from blameless but if the NHL and owners wanted a deal I think there is one to be made. The NHL hasnt shown me they really want to get this done

Not to change the subject but I am. Watched the WHL vs. Russia on the NHL Network last night. Griffin Reinhart was in the lineup for the WHL and I thought did well. Took a penalty put was in position most of the night. The game ended 0-0 and then had a shootout which the WHL won. Tonight's game should be interesting because if Canada wins they win the series. The game will be televised by the NHL Network at 10pm.

Because the bottom line is, they dont need to get a deal done, they need a deal that benefits them the best. Its not about getting back on the ice, its about getting "the better deal". The players got the better deal last time, and the owners are pissed....

Everything extra they are fighting for is going to be less if they miss an entire season. They might get a better deal sure, but with less revenue coming in, what's the point ?

THe fact is, the owners have other ventures...........all told the players will lose worse if a deal isnt done. The owners know this and are playing hard ball.

I am siding with the players on one particular issue. The roll back on players salaries on current contracts. How can you call them contracts anymore? If both sides agreed to a prices, and length of a contract how can the owners demand to tell a contract player to give back money. This effects the agents also because they would have to return money too. Honor the contracts you agreed to or don't sign the player. All owners have to sign off on all contracts signed. The top Eight teams that spend to the max and give out DP contacts all realize they are making a mistake and want to take back as much cap room and pay as they can. If the players agree to rollback contracts how can they be called contracts anymore? I don' care who gets paid what or how much, an agreement is an agreement. This is the GM responsibility to be smart about spending. Also the tiered payment to players saying they can only make a certain amount in a given time takes away all the players bargaining power and thus top players who deserve top money will be limited to what they can earn. I do agree with the cut down of the length of contracts , with contract being no longer than 6 years and rookie contract extended a year. Honor the contracts you signed and have a locked in 50/50 split on revenue over a certain number of profits and give each team an amnesty buyout and lock the cap at a max 60 mill and low 42 mill for ten years and drop the puck. if teams are over the cap, allow them three seasons to get under the cap max and create a level playing field.

no no no.. they accepted that PART of the contract.... there is more then 1 issue in a contract.. they came back with their offer which was dramatically diffrent then the owners... accept for that 1 point.

Exactly... the owners are hurting, but they can live with the league not dropping the puck for a couple seasons... the players on the other hand.. probably can not.

I wish it was all that easy.

BTW.. no one would be giving back money they already received... they would get less money in their paychecks.. from the day the CBA is signed... not on money already paid.
