Winter(un)classic cancelled on Friday. Season over. - Springman75
Hold on there, Chuck...Reports coming out tonight that the NHLPA has asked to meet with the NHL before the end of the week to attempt to negotiate a deal. It's too soon to cancel the season, and the PA believes the league could still fit 82 games in if the season began before November 15. |

Luongo's contract may be a bit to handle but he's definitely not overrated. Take Lou out of the mix in Vancouver and they can kiss the Presidents Trophy, Finals berth, and maybe even a couple playoff berths away.
Any team with questionable goaltending would grab Lou in a flash for a reasonable price. Don't bother highlighting reasonable price, Gillis isn't that stupid to ask for RNH, Hall, Ebs, Yak or Schultz. Everyone else should be fair game. With Lou the Oil would be a lock for a playoff spot. |

I hope they get a deal done ASAP but I think 82 games is long gone. IF they tried to cram an 82 game season in now we would be getting each team Russianing Out on a few games (i.e. not giving a (frank) and wasting out time and money) |

I have this theory that the NHLPA has had a plan all along to wait until they received their escrow cheques before attempting to negotiate a deal. If they rush and get a deal signed by, let's say, the end of Friday, NHL schedule makers will cram in as many games as possible so the players and owners can get as much money as possible. 14 games per month average over November thru April is 84 games...Subtract two off of the beginning of November, and there you go, instant full season. |

I wouldn't complain about watching that much hockey but the players would take games off because the league is just too physical to play that hard that often over 6 months. |

I can see the product sucking and players mailing in efforts. But money is money, and both the players and the owners want as much as possible. |

True. Max money is what it would come down to at this point. I don't think the Sens can afford Spezza to take any more games off than he already does though, so I'd be pissed at an 82 game sched this late. |

Canucks needs are top 6 forward, third line center or tough top 6 D .
Canucks are not getting one of Oilers top 4 forwards and Gagner is not top 6 forward yet . So it will not be for a top 6 forward.
Oilers IMO don't have a better third line center that what we already have ,so it won't be Horcoff
That leaves a Dman. For Canucks to hand over a 35 game winner /average over the last 7 years to a division rival for scraps will not happen. It has to be a wow Dman . That comes down to Schultz or Peckham . You just signed the young stud Schultz so very unlikely it's him.
The only thing reasonable enough to make the Canucks make such a dumb move would be Peckham.
I am not sure if Tambo says we have a hole on the D so we need Tanev also.
I think it is Peckham Khabby for Luongo Tanev |

agree...too late for full sched w/o risking deteriorating product and risking injuries...
Drop it to a low 70's or even high 60's...not gonna happen but that will ensure a higher quality of competition for the whole year |

I think a 70 game schedule like you mentioned is reasonable at this point in time. When the NHL returns I want to see NHL hockey, not 75% NHL 25% KHL. |

That's a ridiculous underpayment for Luongo. Putting Peckham and Schultz in the same breath made me laugh a little bit. Peckham's chances of being a long-term top-4 NHL D-man are fairly slim, in my opinion. He's not a good enough skater to make it long-term and he doesn't really fit in with the Canucks' whole "jump up on the rush and move the puck quickly" mentality. |

I did a little....I bet Laughs will give a reach around to Gillis if this came true...and Pecks to Tanev is an upgrade as far as i am concerned |

If Eberle gets dealt anywhere, Tambellini should be shot. Shot quicker than he already should have been. |
