If a Sabres fan tells you that they wouldn't want to win a cup in a shortened season, they are lying to you, or themselves. Who cares? Just win one.

Just like Leaf fans on winning their cup with only 6 teams

Not even close Cab. Six teams is six teams. 62 games instead of 82 the 4 rounds of playoffs, you are still true champion.

regular season does not matter, you still have to win 16 games in the playoffs to win the cup

^This.

It would only matter to sour grapes fans whose team didn't win the Cup. The league doesn't asterisk the inscription on the Cup because of a shortened season.

Kevin, I don't care if it's a shortened season, I'd happily take a SC. And as a life long Red Sox fan myself, finally winning it all in 2004 and then again in 2007, it's a great feeling.

Go Sabres!!!

They shouldnt have called it a championship back then. It was more like "Did you beat the Montreal Candiens?"

Like an if and then table.

Did you beat the Canadiens?

Yes = You won the cup. No. Ok are you the Canadiens? Yes = You won the cup.

No = You didn't win the cup.

It shouldn't take away from it at all. The playoffs are and still will be a two-month grind like always.

If anything it might be more of an accomplishment because teams will be healthier and better rested heading into the post-season which should lead to an even higher intensity level.

If anything, a shortened season means more teams will be "healthier" and "fresher" when the playoffs start. I would suspect the playoffs might be that much harder then. Sure I'll still take a Stanley cup win!

take it you still have to beat the best teams. Its not like oh its a short season so to win the cup you must play the islanders then the blue jackets and if you win those 2 you win. Cup is a CUp

Before somebody jumps on your post. It was 8 wins over two rounds in the Original 6 era. It's still a Cup and your point is still valid.

It's a shortened season for every team in the league, so it's not like the sabres have any kind of advantage that made it easier. Besides, after we win it, we're going to win it again. Right Terry? Right?

If the season was like 50 games last year the Leafs would have made the playoffs. Definitly not the cup though hahaha. I Sabres are looking good but I don't see them winning over teams like LA and NYR

Yeah, as long as the playoff format was the same I would be fine with it. Before then it's only about standings anyway.

Devils fans don't mind at all. We won our first in 95 with a 48game reg season.

I was gonna say that whatever team wins it is going to hear about it being a lesser championship from fans of other teams, but I never hear anyone say that about the Devils. Interesting.

It wouldn't matter to me at all. You would still have to go through 4 playoff rounds to win the cup. Players on all teams would be fresher for the playoff grind, so there wouldn't be a clear advantage/disadvantage one way or another.

I've been thinking about this and I say it would, I see it as a blemish on the accomplishment makes it lessened to a significant extent. I wouldn't want the Avs winning the cup on a shortened season.

A shortened regular season means nothing.

You still have to win 16 of the hardest games you would ever have to win, come playoff time.
