There is still a reluctance on the owners/GM's part to go the offer sheet route. Weber doesn't change that. |

Do we know if Skinner would even be willing to sign early? We need to sign Semin already.
Staal - Staal - Semin
Skinner - Jokinen - Ruutu
Where would that top 6 rank in the Eastern conference? Would have to be up there pretty high...

Skinner is showing the flash's of being a special player. Hes the kind of player you throw a sheet after. His work ethic is great. Outside of Penner being a so/so player the time of being sheeted. All the offer sheets I think of in the past 5yrs have been on players who can be game changers. Cept the one thrown at Hjalmarson being a tactic to get Neimi for SJ.
Skinner is the type of player a team would offer sheet. Getting him extended asap would be the best bet. |

Question is this dude, if everyone is going to try to sign their talent 2 years earlier the length of contracts are just going to end up much longer.
3 year contracts would effectively really need to be renewed after 1 year |

Its the issue with Offer sheets being available at the end of ELC. If there was 2 versions of RFA status. One being that a player does the initial 3yr ELC and said team Signs player release's player or trades player. So said player stays with current team. Then the 2nd ELC being a 3to4 yr deal worth no more than half w/e max salary is. So kids cant get grossly over paid. If the 2nd deal is 3yrs then the final year player can be offer sheeted or sign a long term deal with his current team. Or at the end of the 4yr ELC said player is a UFA.
They need some sort of security from Offer sheets after the ELC is done. They need to help teams retain theyre talent. You cant blame players for signing these contracts. |

Also like with Skinner its only signing an EXT one year before ELC is up. Not 2 years early. |

Do we know that? If Nashville fails to match the offer and Weber pushes Philly into the later playoff rounds, I would think that more GMs would see the value in using offer sheets in order to take advantage of financial disparities in the NHL. All is fair... |

Schultz wasnt even a offer sheet. He used some weird clause with leaving college early to become a UFA. The ducks got screwed on that one. That clause wont be there in the new CBA.
Schultz never had a contract in the first place with the Ducks either. Which is why i think after a few years he can just use w/e that clause was to become a UFA. |

This whole crap about offer sheets is being completely blown out of proportion. It's all fine and dandy that Weber was offer sheeted, but this is what? The 4th or 5th offer sheet of any merit that has happened in the past 10 years. There have been plenty of notable RFAs on the market that were primed for an offer sheet and didn't sign one. The thing you are forgetting is that the player has to want to sign an offer sheet, it doesn't matter what a team throws at a player if the guy doesn't sign then it doesn't matter |

How many players that are poss game changers were up with no contract as a RFA? Cros/Malkin were signed before hand, no? Not many players that are special get to that point. |

Exactly. Teams are smart enough not to let their guys get that far if they want to keep them.
As for who has made it to RFA. How about Stamkos, Ryan, Duchene, Perry(for one day), E. Kane, Mike Green, O'Reilly, Subban, Benn, and I'm sure others that I am to lazy to look into. |

As a nashville fan, I have no problem with the offer sheet on Weber. My big issue is Philly structuring the contract so that they essentially can buy Weber from Nashville. $110 million is not the issue. Nashville would pay that. The problem is the 27 million in the first year, and the 80 million in the first 16. |

I hope the Pen's sign Semin, but if they don't hope you guys do.
The best opportunity for Semin to play on the Top Six would be with Carolina or Pittsburgh. Carolina would have a formidable team with top 9 of....
Jokinen - E. Staal - Semin
Ruutu - J. Staal - Skinner
Larose - Welsh/Brent - Tlusty
where as Pittsburgh would roll with
Dupuis-Crosby-Semin
Kunitz-Malkin-Neal
Cooke-Sutter-Kennedy
Both can offer him PP and PK minutes. |
