How I remember last season at the time of the Booth trade, how much boasting was done about getting Booth, how good he was, how he was stolen from the Panthers, he was the next coming....look back over all those old blogs and messages. And now he is David Booth, 16 goal scorer who is easily replaced. At the same time Sammy was a key piece of the Panther playoff run. I ask only that Dale Tallon finally gets some credit on that trade as the 2nd time he snookered Gillis (the first being Ballard).

Not too much to ask.

I think Gomez coming in at 800k-1 million is just what he needs to rejuvenate his career. He's only 33 and can still move the puck. This is a 'project" I would love to see Gillis attempt. There is virtually zero risk involved. When you hear other players talk about him they have nothing but great things to say. Pacioretty was almost crying when he heard the news... He could take Kassian under his wing and try and do the same thing he did with Max in Montreal.

Redden im not too sure about... for 800k or so I guess its worth the risk. He lives in Kelowna in the summer so he would be close to home and definitely have something to prove.

At the very least I hope Gillis inquires on both. Dont be surprised to see some GM overpay for these guys tho.

Gomez

Do I want to see Gomez in a Vancouver season this year? HELL YAAA! At the right price Gomez is exactly the kind of player that Vancouver need. While everyone is focusing on the fact the guy went a full year without scoring a goal, what I would like to focus on are the positives

-Two Stanley Cup rings
-0.71 points per game during the playoffs, only Henrik Sedin has a higher production rate (0.75)
- He is a centre, who can play on the second or third-line in Vancouver

So by those three positives, Gomez is an excellent fit. He brings with him the experience of winning the cup; something Vancouver could use. He has got the job done in the playoffs; again, something Vancouver could use. And lastly, he can play the second or third-line centre position; something Vancouver could use.

For me, one year, 850K is pretty fair. Canucks get what they need and Gomez gets to stay close to home.
And as far as AV goes, I don’t care if you’re not interested. Gomez will help you.

Really? Really? All I have to say is the guy scored 1 goal. On the Canucks he may score 5. Shyt what has happened to this team? It went from a Cup contender to a reclamation project for NHL washed up has beens. I think I may just wait for baseball and my Braves instead of wasting my time on this team as it stands now.

Booth's production (what little there was) will be missed. Hansen would have been a 4 or 5 goal scorer without the Sedins. Kasian hasn't shown he can play in the NHL yet, I guess we'll find out pretty quick.

A ginormous NO to goldmez. No risk? If Gillis signed him he could never send him to the minors without looking like a complete fool. I would rather have Wellwood back or Morrison, or Dave freaking Scatchard.

And Redden, seriously? I can't believe I just read that.

I could see a guy like Gomez for sure, but probably for the 3rd or 4th line .... 2nd line might be a stretch.....

Van is in a similar situation that Ottawa was in when they were strong .... no guys 'that have been there' to show the way. Van needs a Mark Recchi type of guy to show the others what it takes to get over that hump and win a cup.

If they dont get two or three guys like that, they will never win ...... speaking from experience unfortunatley

Okay Ian, I get what you are saying about Booth, but when you take him out, take Kesler out... the 2nd line is freaking awful. There is no second line.

So now all of a sudden Kassian is a top 6 forward? Sure great, it's what we want of him, but he couldn't crack the lineup last year, so what's to say he's now ready.

So right now, yes we have a great first line, great goaltending... and that defense you speak of. Well Ian...

Edler has had back issues for a couple years now, what's to say he's completely healthy?
Hamhuis has concussion issues, and is one soft hit from being out for a long time...not to mention his groin issues.
Garrison has groin issues... we all know how those pop up out of no where.
Bieksa, well Bieksa didn't have a stellar year last year, an even worse playoffs.
Ballard, 'ruff said.
Tanev, Vandermeer, Barker... I'm scared, rold me Shaggy.

Gomez isn't a terrible player. He's a terrible player for +7 million. If you get him to a nice low contract, he wouldn't have any pressure to perform, and I could see him coming back and throwing a couple good seasons at you.

I would love to see Redden sign a cheap contract and go back to Ottawa. Ottawa needs players on the back end, and I'm sure Redden would go back there for cheap on a one year deal

We need Kassian to step his game up. If we can count on him for 20-25 goals we can win it all. Otherwise we need to make a trade.

Pretty much. I'm interested to see what guys like Kassian and Schroeder can do when they are actually given a shot in the top 6 for a couple weeks. I see our second line being Raymond-Schroeder-Kassian to start the season. It's on them to step up.

Because AV is so good with young players and trusts them in key situation and forgives them when they make mistakes...

He won't have much of a choice given our current situation.

Someone last night suggested moving Burrows off the first line to anchor the second, I think this is the best short term solution. Hansen showed he could fill in with the twins, maybe Kassian can too. Burrows with Raymond and whichever guy wins the job. Higgins and Lapiere with Hansen if Kassian can fill in for Burrows could be 2b instead of 3rd line. The fourth line is still a mess, it was terrible last year, it will be terrible again this year.

Yup, or split up the twins.

Booth is 4-6 weeks, I'm assuming Kesler is around there too...

Going to have to play .500 hockey until they get back.

Well, you do know Gomez is still under contract to Montreal, so answering the question would have been tampering.

Since when does AV make player personnel decisions? That right there is one of the biggest issues with the Canucks franchise right now!
