I don't know how we can reach the cap floor if Weber isn't signed here.
As I and others have said - at this point it appears we are a bit on the screwed side of things. - blueline
Funny how ownership was committed to being a cap team this year and once again we are struggling for the floor....fml |

if he really doesn't want to be here why match. then you have your captain locked up for 14 years in a place he doesn't want to be, that would be great for team morale.
the preds are between a rock and a hard place with cement on top of them. |

From 2006-2009, with 4 1st rounds pick in the 20-30 range you could get:
2006 - 22nd Giroux
2007 - 26th Perron
2008 - 22nd Eberle
2009 - 24th Johansson or 25th Caron
Weber for Giroux, Perron, Eberle + Johansson or Caron
You still think it's not that great at all? - chipiii
Wow. What a dumb post. Way to cherry pick the best player in the bottom 10 each year. More likely you would have ended up with something like this:
2006 - Bob Sanguinetti (21st)
2007 - Patrick White (25th)
2008 - Anton Gustafsson (21st)
2009 - Tim Erixon (23rd)
Note: This was the player picked one pick before the guys you cherry picked for each year.
Does that seem like a good deal for Weber?
Nashville is screwed either way. Match and they shell out more money than they have for the next 6 years and have to cut back elsewhere on the team.
Not match and if they are lucky they end up with a couple of decent players 3 or 4 years down the line. |

The problem with the bolded part is that even if the Preds match, they still arent at the cap floor. So you're paying Weber $27 million plus more roster players to reach the cap floor.
Can the organization afford that? |

We wondered why Weber changed agents last year? The ownership got played again! Weber's camp just landed a handsome deal!!! Nash needs to spend the money and how the hell is Philly gonna keep everybody happy & together? I would rather overpay Weber 56 mill. |

Flyers are able to keep everybody happy because they traded Carter and Richards for a TON of youth. The Flyers got Couterier, Schenn, Voracek, and Simmonds all the while trading away massive contracts. Factor in that Pronger is LTIR and they let Carle and Jagr walk and it's obvious that the Flyers have added extremely high top end young talent and kept their cap space so they could make this move. |

Ed Snider really wants Weber. I feel for the Nashville fans. Remember, all the owners are privy to what each other franchise makes in a year. With profit sharing, there must be some kind of disclosure to justify money moving to the small market teams. If I were Snider and Holmgren, I would just look over the books on Nashville from the lockout until now. It would not be all that hard to figure out numbers that they just can't match. I love my flyers, but this deal is the big guy stepping on the little guy. I agree with the blogger that Poile probably would not even listen to trade offers. The right thing to do would be to match, but I don't think they can. Nashville could have given Weber about the same money over the same term, but not so much so quickly. That is the lynch pin and I'm sure Snider and Holmgren priced them right out by using their own finances against them.
I think four late first rounders isn't enough compensation for Weber. I almost think the NHL should void the sheet, but I really would like to have weber... |

NHL won't void it, Fedorov was signed to an offer sheet by CAR and Sakic by the NYR and one or both of them were similar in that they paid something like 17m the first yr then 2 mil each of the next two years.
At this point teams are pretty aware of what they can & cannot do when it comes to these contracts.
Everyone feels sorry for poor Nashville but at the same time how do you think Ed Snider feels having to write a check to the "poor" franchises every year, this is just his payback for revenue sharing. |

Why does every argument from every fan from canada come down to
b!tching "revenue sharing"....I mean, is the money coming out of your pocket? Really?
And you can sign me up for the "Weber can kiss my a$$" bandwagon....whenever someone gets around to building it. |

You're right the money isn't coming out of my pocket and I commend the Flyers for making a bold move.
With regards to revenue sharing, that is money that my team could spend on player development, scouting, training staff all sorts of things that don't count against the cap but indirectly benefit the team so I can't say I am a big fan of revenue sharing.
I like baseball's setup and I say that as a fan of a team in the AL East that has a miniscule payroll compared to NYY & BOS.
If they generate all the revenue why should they have to share it with the teams that don't?
I wish my hockey team was a little more aggressive with these kinds of offers like the Flyers have been. |

Paul McCann: What a Wake Up Call!
- Great tidbit from Elliote Friedman on Twitter… Philly’s last four first round positions were 20,25,29,21. And to answer his question… no, those four picks are not worth a Shea Weber.
- pmccann
If you drafted properly, Philly's picks could have been pretty damn good. I'll highlight the guy who would probably go highest if you had a crystal ball. I've included the last 6 for comparison.
2007 - Philly took van Riemsdyk. Could have had Alzner, Couture, Pacioretty, Perron, Subban, Benn
2008 - Philly took Sbisa at #20. Could have had Del Zotto, Eberle, Carlson, Schultz, Stepan,
2009 (Columbus took John Moore). Could have had Johansson, Caron, O'Reilly, Lehner,
2010 (Anaheim took Etem). Could have had Faulk, Smith-Pelly,
2011 (Toronto took Percy). Could have had Jensen, Shaw
2012 (Philly took Laughton). Could have had...
So, would you trade Laughton, Shaw, Faulk and O'Reilly for Weber? Make this deal one or two years earlier so it included 2007 or 2008 you don't make that trade for sure since 2007 and 2008 were great draft years. |

Seeing as how Poile's plan from the start was to sign Suter, Weber, and take a shot at Parise....I would say yes.
I guess the answer is to sign Weber and throw tons of money at Arnott and bring him back. Am I right or am I right people???? |

Love it! Finally someone with some balls, you know why Philly has been such a successful franchise. Because they don't sit back, they're aggressive and go after what they want. When they make mistakes, they make changes.
If the Preds don't match and Philly gets Weber, they've got a very bright future in front of them! Unlike Nashville... |

comcast, a multi billion dollar company that netted over $4b last year, owns a majority of the philadelphia flyers...
they're pretty lucky to have that kind of financial backing |

and despite all the maneuvering and money they've thrown around, especially in the last 20 plus years, they're last stanley cup was in 1975, almost 40 years ago |

As much as we as Pred fans are pissed about people on our team going other places to play, at the end of the day it's just a game. Enjoy your life and try to find a moment to appreciate it. |

well he durn sure doesnt need to be here if he doesnt want to be here and the 4 picks are worth crap.. a trade between now and next week w/ philly is the answer, but i doubt we would get what we want/need. and besides, paying 13 mil extra and still getting a ransom return makes more sense than paying 80 mil over 6 years to a player we may not can afford and doesnt even want to be here. big picture it still makes sense to me. at least its still the lesser of the evils. - predswilrule
The next two drafts are to be stocked, take 2 or three of those first and trade it for the chance at Nathan MacKinnon next year or one of the follwoing, Alex Forsberg, Seth Jones, Madison Bowey in 2013 draft. Man you will have 2 picks for the next 4 years in the first, awsome chance to move up in to the top three by trading 2 of them. Step back for a couple years but if management plays it right a amazing future.

It's quite difficult to comprehend how one person can be involved in two public shootings, let alone two non-related shootings which occurred over 1500 miles apart from one another in a matter of a month
Having said that, my condolences to her and her family, as well as all those affected by this terrible act. |
