Nashville would be dumb to match. Take the 4 first round picks and move on. |

Paul there is an option 4!
It would be the the Preds letting Weber go, but then the Flyers trading players back to Nashville in a second transaction for some of the compensatory picks. It would be 2 seperate transactions.
This took lace in the Chris Gratton deal. |

Weber is a franchise Dman and they do not come around every day. THe best case scenario would be to match if they have the coin or make a decent trade.
4 1st round picks in the 20-30 range is not all that great. |

how do the owners say they have the cash to be a cap team when they keep losing money every year? |

I read a Nash fan on this site post (the day after Suter walked) that Poile had to try to sign Weber.. if nothing got done..trade him for the best package. Because he waited too long, they only have one trading partner now, and the package may be less.

option 4 is the NHL nullifies the deal and fines the flyers, because this contract is clearly SALARY CAP CIRCUMVENTION! |

Will the Nashville fan base support a rebuild? Or would the team tank due to lack of interest?
I can't see how Nashville can afford to let Weber walk. Poile should have never of low balled Weber before arbitration last summer. |

The Flyers just Nashville a favor...and Weber a disservice in my opinion. The offer was WAY lower than I would have imagined. The Preds have alot of options now. They can match and get Weber for a pretty good price. Let him go for the picks or sign and trade for a big return. You have to know that alot of teams are loving that salary for Weber.
Sure the contract is way too long, but what stars aren't getting these ridiculous deals at this point?
I have an inkling more is at work here than Philly just trying to steal away Weber. Philly and Nash have a long history of swapping players. I doubt their GM did this to break that relationship. |

From 2006-2009, with 4 1st rounds pick in the 20-30 range you could get:
2006 - 22nd Giroux
2007 - 26th Perron
2008 - 22nd Eberle
2009 - 24th Johansson or 25th Caron
Weber for Giroux, Perron, Eberle + Johansson or Caron
You still think it's not that great at all? |

Paul McCann: What a Wake Up Call! - pmccann
Nick must have his wires crossed. 3m salary in yr 11 to 1m in yr 12 not possible; the salary cannot drop by more than 50% from year to year. Remember the Max Talbot deal that got vetoed as it went from 2.5m to 1m in a year? |

well Paul as I said the other day, the Preds are still in a good position and they now have their answer to whether or not Weber is totally commited....by signing the sheet he is in an either or situation...Philly or Nashville.
Not sure the preds would trade a guy after paying him that much in year one...
It may be a boat load of young talent or they match....I don't see them settling for 4 picks....but if the the preds got 2 good young forwards with NHL experience and a solid top 4 d man along with a couple of those 20 something overalls, then it may be in their best interest to move on....Poile a great GM...Im sure he'll make the best choice. |

This offer is what nashville should have given Weber in the first place! The Flyers did Weber a huge service and that's why he signed the Sheet! Long term deals will probably be nulified heading into the new CBA and this was Weber's last chance to get paid a huge amount of guranteed money over the long hual. Nashville should of locked Weber up last year prior to going to arbitration. |

The $56M bonus money is what will keep NAS from matching...a mid-tier team cant afford it.

If the cap decreases due to the players taking a smaller percent of earnings than the current 57%, then all player salaries decrease accordingly. |
