Let the rebuild in Nashville begin. - SteveTambellini
It started when Suter and Rads left for nothing!!! I would rebuild my team with Rinne and Weber anyways. Match the offer and start working on the RFA's. |

13 mil will be due as soon as the contract is matched. $1 million salary over the course of next season. Then another $13 mil due on July 1, 2013. And he wouldn't be able to be traded until 1 year after contract is matched. - aightwebang17
So we're talking $27M for one year of play? I guess that pretty much rules out the match and trade theory. There's not an owner in the league who would do something that crazy. No, not even Charles Wang. |

i would laugh so hard if the flyers did this and then the cap went down in the next CBA forcing them to loose key pieces of their team - ky678468
Will never happen that way. Yes the cap can and most likely will go down but that would mean players salaries will be rolled back and there would have to be an Amnesty clause |

If what TSN is reporting is true (Dreger), then it looks as though Weber doesn't want to be here and won't be here unless forced to. That changes the picture significantly. Does he hate this town and the fans and the Preds organization that much? Geez. What a shot in the back. |

The $13m bonus due now plus the $1m salary for '12/'13 season plus the $13m bonus due next July 1st (2013) means that Preds will effectively be paying $27m for playing just one season. Can't match offer sheet and then trade him in a year, not after paying out $27m in less than 12 months.
If true that he doesn't want to be here at all and Preds go ahead and match, how much resentment will be packed into the Bridge?
I guess a 1st rd pick between 20 and 30 for each of the next four years is what we best get used to. Plus of course, the much higher picks that we are liable to be getting on our own as the team slides down the standings into a rebuilding phase.
Hope I'm wrong but this is looking worse all the time. Flyers have backed Preds into a corner from which there seems to be no escape. |

From 2006-2009, with 4 1st rounds pick in the 20-30 range you could get:
2006 - 22nd Giroux
2007 - 26th Perron
2008 - 22nd Eberle
2009 - 24th Johansson or 25th Caron
Weber for Giroux, Perron, Eberle + Johansson or Caron
You still think it's not that great at all? - chipiii
Sorry that im quoting this from the 1st page, but this is probably the dumbest post i've ever seen on hockeybuzz. |

You need to sign him, and then put him up for auction at the end of next season. There would be a few teams who have cash and wouldn't mind having Weber locked up for 13 more years. If I'm Nashville, Weber only leaves town on your terms, not Philly's. - p_zub

Weber's agent was on Prime Time Sports tonight! You Pred fans will love what he had to say!!!

lets be honest after listening to this if both our star players bolt as soon as they can how you can the organization realistically woo in superstar or mid level super star to play here. and all this comes on the heels of ticket prices going up every year taking advantage of the casual fans that were picked up after the playoff success. do we truly believe they will stay around if we have to re build?if we don't match then we have to go and drastically over pay crappy players to get to the cap floor.
also if Weber doesn't want to be here then why would he want to give full effort if we match? |

After paying $27,000,000 for playing one season? That would be insane and will never happen. Talk about throwing money down the toilet.

well he durn sure doesnt need to be here if he doesnt want to be here and the 4 picks are worth crap.. a trade between now and next week w/ philly is the answer, but i doubt we would get what we want/need. and besides, paying 13 mil extra and still getting a ransom return makes more sense than paying 80 mil over 6 years to a player we may not can afford and doesnt even want to be here. big picture it still makes sense to me. at least its still the lesser of the evils. |

WHAT?????? Didn't Webs make 8.5 last year? The preds over pay the next 4 years (22 mill) then it's gets better after that and preds should be reloaded by then. Shea is the last to get the golden nugget!!! Can't fault him and if ownership lets him walk, they have bigger problems to worry about! 31 mill under the cap without Webs. Hate to the see the garbage that is signed to make the cap floor. Sign the offer sheet tomorrow DAMNIT!!! |

It appears we're about to get screwed but maybe, hopefiully, I'm wrong. I'm about at the point where it no longer matters. We've been put through this kind of crap over and over so after awhile it dulls the senses. Whatever happens, happens.
The draft picks suck as a return for losing Weber, especially since it's probable that they will be in the bottom third of the 1st round. On the bright side, we might have some very early picks of our own to add to the pile opposed to trips to the playoffs.

His salary and bonuses are $56m for the next four years.
And my answer was to someone stating that we should match the offer sheet and then trade him next year. (Can't trade him before July 1st.)
My answer to that was that we'd have to pay the first bonus right now ($12m) plus next year's salary ($1m) plus next year's bonus (another $12m) BEFORE we could trade him.
Therefore, if we match the offer sheet and he plays here for a minimum of one season (which he'd have to do before we could trade him), we will have paid $25m for one season. That's a lot of dough. |

I don't know how we can reach the cap floor if Weber isn't signed here.
As I and others have said - at this point it appears we are a bit on the screwed side of things. |

it's probably no consolation right now, but if that indeed is the situation, at the very least, poile will be very well positioned to make a move should a good opportunity arise. having a lot of first round draft picks + a lot of cap space means the preds should be a big player in the trade market |
