I still think Florida is a lock. Just about the return at this pt...
And as much as I think Luongo is soft, and can't stop a beach ball low blocker side...this is going to make Florida a powerhouse and cause Vancouver to not win the division. He is better than Schneider, though this season will prove if that is still so. - FLflames34

You flip-flopped it. Going into next year with Luongo will suck for us. But going into next year without a number one that will suck. Sorry Reimer, and Theodore are not number one goalies - JameyVinnick9
I think you're both right...if Lou doesn't move, it's going to be a bad situation for everyone.
The leafs main problems last year were a slow transition defense and a lack of goaltending. I have no problem with the leafs offense standing pat, even without that first line center if we upgrade the goaltending (and Luongo is a HUGE upgrade no matter how much you hate the guy or think he sucks). Trading Schenn was trading the worst of the bad transition game defenders. Luongo would definitely be my next priority if i'm Burke, and as long as i'm not trading away a top 6 forward or top 4 defender, you have to do that deal.
Go get em' Burkie. - jerseyleaf
The problem lies within man, Every one burke enquires about I am sure Gardiner is included, he isn't an allstar or anything yet but not someone Burke is going to give up at this time, If Gardiner had have waited until this year to break out and have the great year, I have no doubt Luongo would have been a leaf a little while ago.
The same could be said for anyone elses door they have been knocking on aswell.
When you have limited talent and your trying to aquire talent, it's obvious the other team is going to be pointing at your talent in return, we have a long way to go still before we can look at a trade and just give a couple good players away for a couple good players.
Time will come it's just not right now so Burke struggles a little i believe.
From talking to sources I get the sense in one corner is Brian Burke, who feels as if the Luongo contract would make him a hypocrite in that he has long been against such contracts..
Burke was on Prime Time Sports last week and refuted the above statement...
Well with the rumors that are out there reguarding what van wants for lou i would luv nothing more then to watch them get stuck with lou for another yr...Just the thought of them paying close to 10 mill for a goalie tandem makes me - ALeafsFan4Ever
You do realize that Van fans have no problem with that, right? Stellar goaltending with a coin flip. What do the Leafs have that's even close?

This season will prove a few things in the NW. Schneider is better than Luongo. Vancouver is still a juggernaut. Edmonton will be very good in a couple years. Minnesota is overhyped. Iginla and Kiprusoff are past their prime. The flames will suck again
I don't understand all the statements implying that Luongo will make any team an instant playoff team. Let's not forget this is a guy who's only made the playoffs 5 times in an 11 year career. That wasn't even until he went to a strong team. So what about the 5 years in Florida where he could not backstop a weak team to a playoff spot? Not even once in 5 seasons. Heck he even missed once in Van with a pretty strong roster in front of him.
Is he good? Yes, of course he is. Is he great? That's debatable, and I disagree that he makes any team a playoff team.
I will laugh when they trade Luongo and realize they are running with an unproven goalie. He may be good but until he plays a full season with out someone taking ALL the heat you have NO clue what he can do.
Imagine Toronto with James Reimer in goal. Better set tee times now - JameyVinnick9
Chances are remote he is coming to the Leafs, telling the fans to book tee-times is incredibly low, We obv know we have problems, that doesn't make Luongo a saviour to the club, you say this because you want him off your hands and off your books.
Were interested in something that makes sense, On a rebuilding team like the leafs it really does not make alot of sense (i love luongo by the way, he is amazing) but at what cost to the future does it set the franchise back, how does Luongo help us in our current state?
Chicago can win a cup with Luongo, Toronto sadly is no where near that YET.
Let me ask you how manyyears before the leafs can really utelize Luongo? Thats right he will be 2 old to help us properly.
Im don't like/dislike burke, he has done a great job on a piss poor farm team, he made some trade mistakes but has made good moves also BUT ALL IN ALL, if we get Loungo for a good price i would love to have him, we simply cannot afford much so looking elsewhere with luongo is a much better idea for everyone involved.

Without appearing to be a troll, I would not be surprised if Vancouver ended the season anywhere from #1 to #4 in the NW pecking order. I also would not be surprised if Calgary falls anywhere between #2 and #5. What I am trying to say is Vancouver is an enigma, one pretty much equal to last yr yet with a questionable starter. So if they miss the playoffs and Calgary made them, I would not be shocked.
Unless Howie changes mind Nash will be a Blue Jacket.
I am really surprised how people think Luongo has a bad contract but Nash doesn't - VANTEL
I agree. They both are terrible, yet Nash gets a pass because he doesn't have a chance to choke in the playoffs and no one notices his average of being an above-average player.
They both rank in the top-5 worst contracts in the league. Kovy will be in that list in a yr or two.

Actually if you go threw the forums alota your teams fans would hate to have the extra $$$ lou is taking up..Would you really want a tender playing for you knowing he wasnt happy and wants out now..

Age has alot to do with the differences in long term contracts IMO, It's different if a 22 yr old signs a 12 yr contract and if a 26-27 yr old does it, the term of service makes things alot different with different players.
I am not agreeing or disagreeing about the said contracts just about long terms contract differences in general.
