Not trying to be a richard but you guys don't have any other major sports to compete with so of course your ticket prices are going to be more

The CFL and shuffleboard on ice doesn't count

Toronto has a hockey team (sort of), baseball, basketball, and soccer. The only one of the major sports missing is football.

Yet in saying all this the hockey ticket prices are astronomic. I have no other explanation for it other than the demand way outstrips the supply.

On a side note, 30 bucks for lower bowl in Florida? Wow, just wow. That might get you 3 beers in Canadian markets.

I see you've never been to the ACC Ian

30 bucks gets you two beers at the ACC...in fact, they make you take out a small line of credit when you enter becaue the ATM machines dont have enough cash on hand to fulfill the beer drinking needs of fans

And Im not sure about the whole Florida thing...although its Luongos preference, I dont think they follow through with it because of the goalies they currently have. I would argue that Florida isnt in "need" of goaltending help and that they may likely focus their efforts elsewhere.

I dont necessarily agree with this view. Couple of factors that not everyone is considering.

Although Tallon may be losing assets right now for Luongo, he isn't in the long term.

Who's trade value is greater Schneiders or Luo's? Schneiders clearly

IF Markstrom doesn't pan out then they really do need Luongo.

IF he does pan out (he should still get another 1-3 years in the AHL), then panthers can decide (probably from the position of being a 6-9th (maybe 3) seed team with luongo), who to trade.

Luongo has more marketability (especially in florida), his salary will be lower than his cap hit and Markstrom would theoretically have greater trade value.

This is a pretty desirable situation for any GM and he doesnt stand to risk much unless both Luongo and Markstrom totally flop.

Tallon will be buying Luongo Low (hopefully not too low) and so even when he is 35, he might be able to get a similar return for a team that wants a veteran goalie with a low salary.

Aw shucks.
I'm bored and I suppose I will be until Oct.
Keenan as a replacement would be quite the fodder for conversationj. Would probably lead to a record number of bans in a single day on HB.

We actually have one regular season NHL game a year.

We are no Milwaukee, but it's better than nothing.

(Actually, it isn't. The only reason to go to a Bills game is to tailgate, and you can't do that in Toronto).

Look at the economies as well. Canada strong, USA weak. The average canadian has money, the average american doesn't. Plus canadian sports teams still depend on gate revenue, where the US teams depend on TV revenue.

Thing is, Panthers have already signed Clemmensen for two years, so Markstrom has no choice but to sit and wait for two years. With Luongo coming in, Clemmensen takes the backup role, which is fine but then Markstrom dosnt really get any chance to move up and challenge for the starter role for atleast two years...and then even after those two years, it will be tough for him to step in right away and challenge Luongo.

I dont know...like I mean, Florida isnt really in need of assistance between the pipes. If Tallon can grab Luongo for assets he dosnt really need, then by all means. But I would hazzard to guess that Gillis wants some sort of solid asset coming back to Vancity and I doubt Tallon will outbid the Leafs who are actually in need of a tender.

Just my thoughts.

Detroit loses the first deal.

Bieksa and the 1st are the big assets in the Weber deal, but as an Edmonton Oilers fan, I know artificial padding when I see it. When it comes down to it, the lack of prospects makes this a no-no for Nashville.

Ryan-Duchene
I think it's a pretty fair deal, but isn't that Tyson Barrie kid supposed to be great? They'd move Stastny before they would Duchene imo, as well.

Vinny-Prospects
Buffalo is just starting to set themselves at centre. I don't think they do this deal. They get the best player, but give up the most in terms of future.

Not a chance Jovo comes back to Vancouver. He loves Florida, won't accept a trade here.

Goc, prospect + pick is what I'm assuming will come back.

My offer Friday.

Toronto trades 6 first round picks, Kadri, Ashton, Colbourne for Getzlaf and Ryan.

- Scooby_Doo

That is a GREAT deal for Toronto. Picks be damned!

I'm starting to get the feeling that Markstrom's injuries are more of the chronic variety. Tallon must be aware of something regarding this guy's future, else none of the Theodore, re-signing of Clemmensen, and negotiating for Luongo makes any sense.

This day is so slow and boring, I feel like we should pick up the Beagle vs. Great Dane debate again.

Thank you! I posted that yesterday due to the lack of anything whatsoever to discuss.

I think I prefer discussing the Snoopy vs Scooby cagematch outcome over hypothetical trade scenarios submitted by readers.

I agree with a lot of what your saying but Markstrom playing in the AHL another 2 years would be following the mold of Schneider, Howard and some other pretty good goalies that took the time to develop the proper form before being thrown into an atmosphere that is so competitive that goalies revert to bad habits.

I think the reason Tallon outbids the leafs is 3 fold - More assets to offer to make it a better fit, a better trading relationship, and Luongo may strongarm Gillis in this.

I think goaltending is an issue though as im not sure if Theodore repeats his year and that means no playoffs even in the weak SE and that lost of revenue could be killer for a team like florida.

Yeah. I was wondering that my 02 dauchounds are smarter than AV.

They know the exactly time to eat, to go out for a walk, to go to bed and to drink some beer.

Im not sure if AV can do that.

The weber offer is terrible!!!

I would start by asking for elder in any weber deal

To nsh: edler, sauve, raymond, 2013 1st rounder and 2014 first rounder

To van weber, prospect

To sign weber you will be looking at 13-15 years and 95-100 million dollars!!!

It also depends on being able to re-sign Getzlaf. If they couldn't do that, they're screwed

To be honest, I think they are screwed with the Kessel deal. Have you seen that contract? Brutal. Kessel's gone after his contract expires. The leaf have no leverage with him.
