Fan Offers

Beall

To Vancouver Justin Abdelkader, the center we need.
To Detroit Keith Ballard, an offensive defensemen that can hit.

At a glance Vancouver wins in this deal, take into consideration the abundant amount of centers and forwards Detroit has and lack of NHL defencemen. Abdelkader is an RFA right now unsigned and so is Quincey. Abdelkader will command 3-3.5mil for at best a 3rd line center on Detroit’s line up. Ballard will be able to get top 4 minutes and more than likely be able to return to form, he has the potential.

My Thoughts- seems fairly reasonable given Detroit is starting to get fairly desperate for D. I do question why they would trade Abdelkader for an overpaid D when they could likely find a cheaper option somewhere else. Trade seems to solve both teams needs to a certain extent.

Kevin Doughty

To Nash- Ballard, Raymond, Bieksa and a 1st rd pick
For
To Van- Weber

My Thoughts- No. I will have more on Weber tomorrow and the type of deal it will take to land him. This offer isn’t even close and why would Bieksa waive his NTC (I’m pretty sure he has one) to leave? I think is would be an easier sell to Preds fans that their captain left for more money and a better shot at winning then swinging that they got 2 castoffs (decent players but let’s face the facts there is no market for either right now), a 1st, and a solid player for him.

AlexF

To COL: Bobby Ryan
To ANA: Matt Duchene, Tyson Barrie, 2nd Rd pick

Colorado stays young and adds a bonafide scorer.

Anaheim gets their long lost 2nd line center and a D prospect (which they are lacking).

My Thoughts- I honestly would not deal Duchene straight up for Ryan, so I’m a huge no on this one from the Avs perspective. Toss in Fowler or Sbisa and it would be worth taking about. Avs are going to be a good team next year. If they do deal a forward form their young group it will be for a D.

Mathwil3

Vincent Lecavalier

For

Nathan Gerbe, Luke Adam, Corey Tropp, Adam Pardy, 2nd 2013 pick

Not sure anyone will like this trade. Vinny gives Buffalo a big number #1 center albeit declining on numbers and increasing in injuries, but a fresh start with excellent wingers and 20 minutes a night might help bring him back to 30 goals and 80 points for a few seasons.

Tampa gets out of that outrageous contract. They get a pest in Gerbe who could also be a 20 goal scorer. Luke Adam who could use some work on his skating but has scoring prowess and is big, given the chance can fit in a 2nd center role eventually. Tropp gives you a checking body with better than average hands and Pardy is thrown in to help with the salary. Like I said no one will love it but if the Sabres sweeten the pot with a 2nd round pick not that bad.

My Thoughts- My first thought is why would the Sabres want to take on that contract? I think if Lecavalier is the missing piece to your team winning the Cup, then yes; make the deal, take your one shot at the Cup in the next couple of years, and live with the consequences. I like the Sabres young core players. They have drafted well, and will be a very good team in a few years. Don’t bring in a Vinny just to make the playoffs. Grow the core you have and be a very good team for a long time.

Luongo Watch- 2012

Not much to report on this, although a few sources on Twitter are reporting this deal to go down in the next 48-72 hours. Sources are reporting that the Panthers are still the team that will land Luongo. Names that have been speculated coming back to Vanouver are Gudbranson, Upshall, Theodore, Ellerby, Jovanovski, Versteeg, Kulikov, Bjugstad, Howden, Mcfarland, Trocheck, Wilson, Wright, Petrovic, and a bag of pucks.

On a side note, 30 bucks for lower bowl in Florida? Wow, just wow. That might get you 3 beers in Canadian markets.

Patrick Mullen

Vancouver signed Patrick Mullen yesterday. I honestly don’t know anything about him, but here is what Hockey’s Future had to say about him.

“Mullen is two-way defenseman who is neither overly physical nor particularly inclined offensively. He does have a good first pass and is capable of moving the puck up ice to forwards. He also is a fairly good lateral skater. Mullen however is easily overpowered and although he added some muscle over the past two seasons, is still too easily overpowered in the corners”

By that scouting report, start planning the parade. So, he isn’t physical and gets out muscled for the puck. Well at least he can pass and in right-handed. I’m a bit puzzled by this signing, and have to wondering if there wasn’t someone younger, with more upside at rookie camp that could have filled this roster spot. Seems like a waste of a contract spot to me.

Well, that’s a wrap.
