On the plus side for the Stars, Dallas' bars close at 1 AM. Add the fact that Roy is in a contract year, and they should be happy with Derek this season. I for one love the trade and was hoping for Roy to be traded for years now. Love that the Sabres are moving forward with the new core of players while getting tougher along the way.

I think it was a good deal for both teams...

Dallas was aging with Ribeiro at center and not going any where... now they were able to trade a 2C/3C type player htat added a lot of non statistical things to their game in order to get a cheap 4M 1/2C player like Roy who if he returns to form can be close to a 70 pt scorer..

Roy with Benn/Morrow/Eriksson will be wonders for his career..

He averaged 17:08 minutes of icetime per game that playoffs, it's not like he was hidden. Briere averaged only 18:48 that playoffs. Don't act like Roy was worthless.

Look man, I'm not going to argue with you that Ruff is more to blame than Derek. I think Ruff gets a free pass. But Derek Roy was done here. He just was. Fans don't have patience for his act anymore, and he trashed Ruff on locker clean out day. After that, it was going to be him or Ruff, and personally, I was fine either way. I think it's time for a change here, but they chose to change players, so Roy is out. Maybe some new personalities will save Lindy, who knows? But you have to get over it with this trade. If you accept that Lindy didn't get fired, which he didn't, then you have to see the wisdom of clearing out the old core. Whether it's Roy's fault or not, he represented the fractured player-coach relationship in Buffalo.

He's gotten enough right that I pay attention. I don't believe every thing. He has announced the Parise signing about 100 times already. But he either is getting credible information, or he's the luckies SOB out there.

The thing I like about Ott, though, is that the guy can also play a little. He's played the powerplay more than competently. When Lucic hit Miller, everyone was in awe on how "tough" he was, which was definitely an asset. However, what makes Lucic so effective isn't just that he can pound your face in. It's that he can pound your face in AND score 30 goals a year. You get something like that with Ott, though to a lesser degree.

I think if the Ducks are sending 2/3 of their top line back we would have to include both Myers and Vanek + depth.

he has been in the teens for goals every year in the league.. with one season at 22...

No player has been traded to Buffalo and just blew up the goal column.. its not Ruff's system that allows players to do that...

he will probably get no better than 18 goals and 22 helpers.. 40 pts tops.

I think he probably is just scooping other sources. Putting info out there early and often. Let's say he only gets 1 out of 4 or 5 right. That's a high % compared to IncareratedBob, krufrank, nhlsourcessay, and the other rumor mongers out there. He's having a good couple weeks. It's entertaining.

Anaheim has 32M in cap space... they have all the money in the world to sign both Getzlaf and Perry in the next year to 8M contracts if they really wanted to.

Yup, been a while, and thanks. I really hope there is another move though, the argument that the forward depth chart is crazy is a valid one.

I know im new, ive been reading these boards at work for 2 years now, and just never deceided to join.

just suggestions. obviously i just want to see the sabres actually do something about their offensive problems, just like everyone else here

I'm happy to see Roy leave. He had some really good years with the club, scored some nice goals etc..... but he needs a change of scenery. Ott will bring the intangibles the Sabres need for this coming year. Darcy still has a lot of work to do.

I'm guessing it had to do with the Islanders trading for his rights last year and someone not cleaning up the spreadsheet correctly when his rights went to Buffalo.

Regier hinting at wanting that #1 C really makes me worry...
