Not that it's my place to criticize or anything...
But I see all these capgeek calculations in here, some of which are putting a 3rd pairing D as Bourdon/Lilja etc...
Was there not a time last year when you had 3 or 4 dmen hurt at the same time? Which brings me to this question, if you spend to the cap to bring in Parise/Ryan who's is going to play defense if/when there are injuries? - canadianpenfan
Are you really surprised? |

It really is like people already forgot about last season. |

There was a time last year when 3 or 4 dmen were hurt. It is when we beat the Penguins in the playoffs.
You're point is valid-Ryan and Parise would not be great acquisitions. Although I wont cry if Carle walks. |

Hey I was looking at that '07 draft this morning...
5th round- Jamie Benn - canadianpenfan
That was because he was playing Junior A at the time and hiding out under the radar screen to some degree.
BTW, Benn is the only "sleeper" from this blog I did at the time of the 2007 draft who has ended up actually panning out in the NHL (but that's not unusual).

Oh sure Bill, write a blog and throw an old date on it...
j/k, nice work.
Question- Is the guy who said this still a scout?
One Western Conference scout called Benn "the steal of the draft [with] all the tools to be an impact player" in the NHL

"If the Flyers guessed correctly on Klotz, he can be a feared fourth line player in the NHL. While I think it's still desirable for teams to have a legit enforcer, I'd personally rather take a player such as Mitchell or Benn with a chance to play in my top six forwards someday -- if he maintains his conditioning and works on smoothing out some rough edges -- than a guy who may become my 12th or 13th forward. "
Klotz Good stuff Bill. I wish you'd have been at the draft table that year. |

Why would anyone be mad? If it get's to the point where it looks like he's wants to test the market. You make a deal if you can. Hopefully they would have a plan B. - MJL
We had since last season to sign Carle, and it's not done... I consider us in the 11th hour now... I assume that we have an understanding with Carle. However, if we don't and somebody wanted to get a jump on negotiations - well, I'd take the offer. As for who would do this? Calgary did it today... "Calgary obtained Wideman for defenceman Jordan Henry and a 2013 fifth-round draft pick." |

So what is the expectations for a Shane Doan signing?
Doan-Coutirier-Read would be one hell of a top line matchup on a nightly basis. |

Doan is going to test the market but hes asking for 4 years. Lets talk and see what we can do. I would love to add Doan to this roster. |

It sounds like the only reason Carle isn't signed now is the tagging space rule. They chose to up Coburn first I guess, but it was going to be one or the other during the season, then hopefully the other once the new cap takes effect. |

The more I think about it the more I am beginning to realize how great an impact a defensive minded winger would be to this roster.
Pair a strong defensive minded winger up with Couturier and Read and you can play them against the other teams top line every night. Like we did with Couturier himself in the playoffs.
Would open up so much for the top 6 forwards... |

Do you think there is any shot at him being added this weekend?
If he is looking for 4 years, cap hits gotta be somewhere between 2.5-3.5 right? |

29 other cities can say that too. There's is nothing about Doan's game that's not to like. Plus I couldn't think of a player that would be hungrier for a ring than him. |

I wouldn't rule anything out.
And I would say his cap hit would be higher then that.
