I think that stuff has to be taken with a grain of salt. Players and agents know the situation with Richards and Carter, or at least there can be a plausible excuse in those situations.

Oh I know, just curious to see how it would be spread around the league in terms of the length a contract is signed for by a player coming out of a ELC that can't have any type of movement clause in the early part of a long term extension.

I see your point, but until Richards and Carter that was not the case - Kimmo, Hartnell, Gagne (1 yr left on contract). I think the big variable to the whole team is the removal of Pronger to career ending injury. Certainly, the organization thought they would have a top pairing d-man for at least the next 4 years and they could build their cap around knowing Pronger would be entrenched for many years to come.

With the emergence of Schenn, Simmonds, Coots, and Voracek suddenly JVR becomes a pretty important chip to either a) be a top line winger to build around for years to comes as G's sidekick b) move for finanical flexibility as well as acquring assets to improve the club to compliment the young core of G, Coots, and probably Schenn.

Either way, it is going to be an interesting couple of weeks.

Yeah, can't say I'd be shocked by anything that they do this off season.

I'd prefer avoiding the long term deals with guys coming off EL deals

I'd be more fine with it if I was a player if they gave me that as I entered the final year or just finished the final year of my restricted years.

All about cap friendly deals that will be a steal later down the road. Still have enough value to trade as well. I don't like the long term deals either unless it's for an elite player like Giroux.

That would be my preference as well. It might result in a higher cap hit after RFA, but it would result in a lower hit when he's pre-UFA

Speaking of which, I will be very curious to see if Voracek signs for more then 1 year. I get the feeling after reading different articles with comments from Svoboda he may be signing a mult-year deal.

He can sign a 2 year deal I think he has 3 RFA years left.

Vorcek is interesting. I'd like to see him sign a 2 year deal, rather than do the year to year stuff.

Good information to know. Voracek is just going to turn 23 this summer, if he could just hit the net more consistently he would be a 25 goal scorer. Also, he has been a very durable player in his career. From what I can see he seems to be a really good teammate. Who could ever forget G and him with their horrible mustaches dyed. That was frightening.

I'm also curious to see if we see another young forward make the roster like Coots did last year. I think the obvious answer is Wellwood because of his speed and PK abilities.

It's possible that he's trying to shop JvR...from reading the rumormongers, they either love JvR and see him as Giroux's Reggie Leach or they can't wait to have him gone.
- Jsaquella

Would you trade JVR to Phoenix for Rundblad or Gormley. As mentioned earlier, Phoenix has a ridiculous amount of young d-men in the pipeline, but a little light on the scoring wingers.

I don't recall this ever being discussed, but I am curious. What is the general consensus here on the lenth of years and Cap hit of Giroux's next contract?

Bill according to Brian Huddle it seems the London Knights are trying hard to land Oscar Dansk to replace Michael Houser since as you mentioned he prefers the smaller style rinks do you think he'll opt to play in the OHL?

Pretty good chance, although Alcén is one of the best goalie coaches in the world.

I'd prefer a guy who is a bit more of a known quantity. Both are great prospects, but I wouldn't trade JvR for a top 5 pick right now, and that is basically what Gormley and to a lesser extent Rundblad are right now

I almost get the feeling about JVR with Carter last summer, just a matter of when, not if he is traded. I hope I'm wrong, but it just seems the way this thing is going.

Hope not. Keep the core unless you can get an elite d-man

I agree. I'd prefer tweaks to big changes. Keep the kids, add a solid vet defenseman, maybe a good grind line center or winger with grit and a Cup ring, if Bob is traded go get a solid back-up goalie.

Unless they can get into the top 6 or so, no need to even make a deal to move up.

Even if only half the kids hit you have a good core. Seems like they all hit last year. Still wouldn't mind Parise or Paris over Jagr.

I really hope the Flyers execute more patience and don't move JvR. Still think the kid is going to be something special. He's got a long term deal in place. Let it unfold.
