Just curious with this Petrov situation. If it is only a 1 or 2 year KHL deal, how long do the Islanders own rights to him? It can't be indefinitely, right? It will have been 5 or 6 years since his draft in a year or two.

They will own his rights forever. At the time he was drafted there was no transfer agreement between the KHL and NHL.
That might be the most reasonable offer I've seen. Not sure I'd do it though.
I'm really starting to like Yakupov - Lahey
That is the most reasonable offer, if not you could always go back on the Pens blog and start talking about the Staal for Yakupov plus next years first
F-ing ridiculous. Some part of me thinks that if he was drafted by a better franchise, his mother's illness wouldn't have prevented Petrov from coming to North America this coming season. - Jethro09
Not surprising since his mom is still very sick. My guess is he never comes over. Time to move on. Way to close Garth. Can somebody post the video of Alec Baldwin talking about closing in Glengarry glen ross?? Awesome movie and awesome scene - Vukota
Look at it this way, at least you don't have to hear about Petrov anymore

Yup but they had I think at least 2 if not 3 3rd rd picks so I guess it was worth the shot - Vukota
Just to refresh your memory. Three picks in the 2008 3rd rd:
@ #66 David Toews (given to the BlackHawks)
@ #72 Jyri Niemi (traded to Rangers for 6th rd pick)
@ # 73 Krill Petrov (signed contract with KHL)
So in retrospect, the 2008 3rd rd was a complete waste for the NY Islanders. Could have gotten similar results by having that Asian Kid pick names out of a hat!

You're talking about Russian plane rides. Give me the bus thanks. - canadianpenfan
I bet I am one of the few people on the boards who can honestly say I have experienced the Russian plane rides...
In fact, I took the overnight from Moscow to Khabarovsk, and one of the KHL teams was on the plane... The flight was nearly 8 hours. They were heading there for a game the next night against the Amur Tigers... Khabarovsk is also the home town of Alexander Mogilny, my all time fave player
The funny part is during the flight one of the Moscow players came to talk to us because he heard us speaking English and wondered what the hell we were doing on the red-eye to Khabarovsk. He was a Canadian guy named Jame or Jaime or something like that.
... you don't want to travel too much when you can have 8+ hour flights and still be in the same freaking country!
I guess we better get use to hearing this sound with Free Agency coming up. I hope LI hears this sound when the Isles leave for Brooklyn. We need Chief throwing in some Benny Hill as well.
