I think its interesting that Cherry shows that Schenn initiated the whole sequence with an earlier hit, and that Crosby simply took at shot back at him in the corner before Schenn crosschecked him. Believe me, I'd rather see Malkin and Crosby stay away from that stuff, but the simple fact is they take a lot of abuse throughout the game, and this isn't the 1980's anymore and we don't have the Dave Semenkos of the world out there to police things....we all know that Schenn would have lost a few teeth over that incident if this was 1985....but it isn't, so Macyntire wasn't out there on Schenn's next shift to pummel him (he was down in WBS because the enforcer is a dying breed in today's NHL). The stars largely have to look out for themselves and its hard to turn the other cheek all the time, and so when Malkin and Sid choose to go back at guys, I don't have a problem with that.

You know, the Flyers have Briere. He is a small guy who often has to resort to defending himself with his stick. He gets run a lot and to survive he uses his stick "effectively". He often gets called for it, it seems Danny sits in the box almost once a game for a stick penalty.
If Crosby wants to play that way, I certainly understand the reasoning behind it.
But he should get penalized for his stick infractions like everyone else.
I think as Flyers fans we have a perception that Crosby isn't called as much as he should be for the hacks and slashes.
I think if the refs had called him on a couple of the slashes he took on Giroux earlier in the 5th game, the whole thing may not have exploded like it did at the end.

I get that. The fact is the top stars in the game always get a bit more rope than other players. I know a parallel is it drive me nuts that you can't so much as drop a feather on Tom Brady without getting a roughing call, so I understand where you are coming from. Its always been that way, and it isn't fair, but its the way it is...

Total Points per Division:
Atlantic - 501
Northeast - 441
Southeast - 436
Central - 481
Northwest - 444
Pacific - 457
Without actually doing the work to find out, I wonder if that's the highest point total in a division since the shootout was instituted. Poor Islanders :/
Edit: Well it was easier to figure out than I thought. Looks like the Pacific the last two years were in the 490s, and there was a year the Central had a lot, but no division ever broke 500 points until now. - eayost

beyond seeming like he gets away with things what bugs me the most about crosby is how he handles these situations. yes star players get targeted more and yes they need to stick up for themselves a bit, however when you take shots at players behind the play you should expect you'll get that back sometimes too in the form of little shots after whistles. so dont act like you got shot and look at the refs with a dumb look wondering how couold someone possibly touch you.
the act is then followed up by not dropping the subject (no matter how small of an event it should be) and acting like a victim in the media. most players when asked about a shot like schenn gave you say its part of the game, we were just going at it, it happens, etc... crosby though calls it a cheap shot and acts cluesless as to why it happened, like he didnt do anything and that the other players are all at fault. its like how my sister got me in trouble many of times growing up, this is what grinds me gears.
