I still think there are better options. Barker wont be resigned so we dont have to worry. I dont think peckham will be playing for the Oilers next year. Maybe throw Teubert into a 6/7 role and see what happens? He was pretty hot and cold this year tho.
- Oilfan19

I rather have someone instead of hoping Teubert can step up. We lucked out this year with having Potter step up out of training camp and then Petry being decent after the original stretch.

Bring in the bodies and make players earn jobs.

Not really. ST made it clear when we drafted Hall that he had a five year plan. We are in year 2 and people are crying. Go look at WSH, LA, CHI, PIT, etc... none of them were anything special in 2 years.

We don't fight for the playoffs next year then start crying.

- Lahey

I dont think many educated fans have been crying. I just think that Renney is not the right coach for this. And as to your point yeah pittsburgh went 4 years of drafting 1,2,1,2 overall. It takes time and I think most educated fans realize it.

On a bright note really happy to see Flames fans starting to talk about Backlund being a bust. Wasn't that long ago, that Backlund and Hodgson were suppose to be future franchise centers and Eberle was going to be a WJ hero and that was it.

Yeah for sure lets bring in a few guys and make em earn there ice. But I see grossmann as another barker and ive never been fond of Kubina. As it stands whats our D next year look like?

Whitney/Schultz
Smid/Petry
Potter/Sutton
Tubes a 7th? am I missing anyone?

Why is Renney not the right coach? He's made our PP the best in the league. He's made our PK pretty darn respectful.

Not sure what else the guy should exactly be getting out of this team. Gagner looks to be a better all around player. Eberle getting better.

Well Peckham is there for now too. You don't put Tubes as a #7 either. I still don't think Potter is a lock to make this team and Sutton could be in a #7 role.

Whitney/Schultz
Smid/Petry
Carle/Grossman/Kubina/
Sutton

Like I said, making our top 4 better is doubtful, but no reason we can't increase the role of the bottom pairing and make the job easier on the top 4. That's really about all we can hope for at this point.

I think Eberle was gunna get better no matter what. Renney just doesnt make anyone accountable. I dont see him as a great motivator and he doesnt seem to care about winning or losing.

I see it more as

Whitney / Shultz
Smid / Petry
Teubert / UFA
Sutton

Potter and Peckham may serve specialty roles and make it in from time to time, but something has to break. We have a logjam of mediocrity. Bad problem.

I thought I heard that Murray was pretty darn close to NHL ready and was the most NHL ready outside of Nail? Could he not be our 5-6 man this year and trade for another dman?

I think peckham sees the AHL next year. Well Potter is putting up Gilbert numbers tho at some points does seem to be a little defensively challenged. Idk are any prospects ready? People have been talking about Klefbom but to be honest ever since I saw his interview at the draft im convinced he will never wear an Oiler jersey.

It still amazes me how people doubted Eberle... The kid has done nothing but deliver his entire hockey career...

I would never Pencil in a drafted dman until I see him in the preseason. Always risky.

I don't think this is really an issue to be honest. We lost some games in the last few weeks that really it shouldn't matter because they were hard fought battles that showed a lot of positives.

I don't know about the motivation as I never heard any oiler talk about this about any coach in the past 10 years.

I disagree on the accountablity part. Sure he hasn't sat Horcoff, but fans need to realize that in his role he was going to make mistakes. Fans see players that they hate make mistakes and get pissed off that such player isn't sitting in the press box the next game, but they forget about all the little things that player did earlier.

My only concerns with Renney have been Belanger on the PP and the amount of ice-time he received. That has been corrected. I also don't like the minutes Schultz is getting, but that could just be because he is new.

I don't care if Horcoff or Belanger is on the ice with a minute left, because it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out.

I don't care about the win and your in, because Renney has made it clear that DD in the past takes things for granted and needs to be reminded to give it 100% in every practice.

I don't care that RNH was on the #2 PP unit. We are first in the league I think Renney and company know what they are doing in this regard.

Even if Murray is NHL ready, I expect the same growing pains that we had with Petry. Sure in the long run it might not be that bad, but putting Murray in next year probably doesn't make us a better team.

I hope Peckham is dealt at the draft. We have issues at defense next year in the AHL. There are quite a few guys there already and we are going to be adding some from junior and maybe Klefbom. Need to cut a couple guys.

Trust me I have no problem with horcoff, once you get past the contract hes a solid 3rd liner. I mean when we have lost some brutal games this year his interview goes something like "good effort just wasnt our night." Im just kind of old school i guess, i feel we need a coach like hitchcock that makes you work your ass off night in and night out and if your not then consequences.

What do we get for peckham? The only way I see him leaving is if he is a throw in, in a bigger deal.

This is what I think happens. Either him or Potter IMO.

Part of the problem with Peckham is he is going to get at least 1.1mil next year. Kinda lot for him to play in OKC.

It pisses me off because he probably will be a bottom 6 guy one day, problem is how long does that take and can you afford to pay him at the AHL level. THat is if he clears waivers.

What's he going to say? We got destroyed because my female dog of a GM thinks we can wait another year until we fix the d and goaltending?

Is Whitney/Schultz really our top pairing? Petry and Smid are getting more ice time and playing more effective.
