It depends on Zajac and how healthy he's going to be in the playoffs. If Lou knows he won't be 100% then maybe another forward. The Devils could always use offense. |

Devils are checkmate after picking up Zidlicky.
They had a sleeper 2nd period yesterday that shows us that they were a team with little to no energy at all. (exception, the Ponikarovsky/Zubrus line)
Unless a big deal is made, no deal makes sense. They're now plagued with Zidlicky, which chances are good he continues to play extremely substandard not only to his standards but to NHL standards. They wanted to improve a power play they barely ever get. Even if he played standard to his own potential, he would account for a goal every 12-24 games and that's not going to count that well in the standings or in the playoffs.
But what's done is done and it's checkmate Jersey. |

That's pretty serious if you'd willingly subject yourself to that. |

In reality, Zidlicky played very well yesterday. Salvador was surprised more than once with how quickly Zidlicky moved the puck. Zidlicky nearly hit Sykora with a breakway pass....
The timing with both of these things were off because he is playing with new people and it's hard to trust your instincts in those scenario's. You really have to see it before you do it when you're playing with 4 new players.
He also took a "good penalty" with Stamkos breaking in on Broduer, waited as long as he could then took the call to prevent a good chance.
Zidlicky looks like he will fit in very well once he gets settled.

1. I openly criticized the move before they made it; I openly criticize it now. Oh no, am I spewing "feces", well then I can only accept that criticism with class. You're entitled to your thought and welcome to share it.
2. What I mean by checkmate means they can't trade for anything other than a 4th liner, lest the move hurt the team unless they rip another team off.
3. But anyone who criticizes certainly has counter thoughts... let's hear em. |

You have the right to your arguments but your use of hyperbolic language makes you melodramatic. |

why does the zidlicki deal specifically put them in "checkmate"
there are still plenty of role players/picks/prospects that could be moved for a deal... |

Yeah, that's the interesting one to me too. A legit faceoff guy and defensive forward, rather than forcing Clarkson to take every other draw if they're down a goal late.
Lou did use most of the movable parts on the Zidlicky (with a Y) deal. |

Devils have begun their infamous 5-6 game losing streak after a very good stretch. Look for them to lose tonight 4-1.

What is your reasoning on being so against Zidlicky? I still don't get it, what are you upset with, giving up a second round pick? That's what it takes to get players like him.
Look at his (frank)ing stats prior to poop year, he has put up solid numbers. This year Minnesota can't score for poop and him and Yeo had their falling out. There was a couple passes Zid made during last game that I was like wow. |
