Hmm, never thought about trading Phaneuf. Although I'm not sure I agree with whom you think Burke will be willing to trade. Outside of Gardiner, if Burke is willing to trade Schenn, he must be willing to trade anyone else on your first list.

What/who do you think the Leafs could get by dangling Phaneuf? Would adding him allow Burke to get the #1 centre with size (ie. Stall, Getzlaf) the Leafs need so desperately in your opinion?

Getzlaf would be best fit, but in my opinion right now not a realistic target (I think UFA 2013 time will be interesting with regards to Toronto and Getzlaf (and Hartnell, J. Staal, Clowe, Filppula; lots of possible pending UFA C´s in 2013)).

Most realistic C target right now would be Kopitar in my opinion.

Not to mention that Komi has a NMC

At this point I think Komi would waive the clause to go anywhere. Hockey players want to play hockey, not watch 85% of the games from the press box.

Not sure I would move Phaneuf for Kopitar. It's true not many guys available to help the Leafs at centre right now, this is why Burke should just get his head together and make a move for someone significant... soon.

Not sure but I don't see any of those guys as 1st line center except Getzlaf. (Not sure about Filppula). The safest thing to do right now is sign Grabovski.

A 24y old 80+ point, 50assist per season Center with a big frame?
Phaneuf alone wouldn´t even be enough to get Kopitar, it would probably take a 2nd round pick / decent prospect for this to go through.

Phaneuf is a very good D, not a good enough Captain in my opinion (too much neanderthaler; Liles would make a much better captain for example). Phaneuf would be missed alot, but his qualities on D can be replaced. Kopitar´s upside would be huge to Toronto..

Lupul - Kopitar - Kessel is a very good 1st line.
Kulemin - Grabovski - ?? would be a strong 2nd line

Probably keeping Brown, Armstrong, Bozak for 3rd and 4th lines.
A good framework for the future to include Colborne, Kadri, Frattin etc.

On D, a #1 D is missing then (going after Suter?) but, with Liles, Schenn, Gardiner, Aulie, Franson, Gunarsson, Blacker already a strong D core.

And some work has to be done on G when Gustavsson will not be resigned this off-season; Burke would probably go after Harding for a Harding-Reimer combo.

Yes, I agree on Hartnell, Clowe not being C´s ofcourse, and J. Staal a question mark for the #1 C spot.

All of these would be welcome additions though on the Tor team.

And I would bet on it for Burke to sign Grabovski for three additional seasons as the number 2 C. Grabovski has more than earned his extension at 4.25M/season.

That would be nice but I think ANA would want Kulemin instead of the first

Yep the Leafs are out..

Bob Mac reported yesterday on TSN that Howson is asking for Jake Gardiner in the deal and Burke is refusing to add him....

The Leafs cant afford to deal that kid at this point..Way to much upside..

Good on Burkie for standing his ground with that. Howson is going to greed himself down to just 1 team and end up with less. I'd rather BB not go after either of the CBS players. If he can swing a deal with someone or a forward and a goalie great, if not wait until the draft and UFA. No point in moving 4+ assests to get 1 overpaid underachieving player..we already have a few of those

Toronto fans sure do overvalue their players.

Please tell me why the Kings have a need for another defenseman when their problem is scoring help on the wings?

I missed that memo.

What's even funnier is 8 Leafs have as many goals or more than him, and 2 more guys with 1 less.

I don't see the need for D in LA, they need a big sniper like Nash, its a perfect fit if they are willing to pay the price. I think the Richards deal was a bust for them too, maybe they can deal Richards for depth scoring too

Only 2 players on the team have more points than Getzlaf: Lupol and Kessel.

Hmm, a center that assists more than scores goals. And look who his linemates could be.

I'm not a TO fan so I couldn't tell you if it'd be a good fit or not, but up until recently Ana was having a terrible year. If Lupul can come in and do what he did, you'd think Getz would be able to too.

Well, the Richards deal, if you want to call it a bust, isn't because of Richards but because of our management and coaching philosophy.

Within recent history, most people who leave LA do better than here, and those that come here from elsewhere do worse... this is offensively. It's the system, not the player.

Point is he is having a poor year, he is a 20-25 goal scorer. Bozak has what 7 fewer assists? Does that mean he is a good playmaking C or the benifactor of 2 stud linemates. Getz value at 5+ million is not as high as it would have been few years ago. That being said would love to have him between Lupul and Kessel. Just not going to see that happend this year

I see Richards as a hard nosed 2nd line C with some offensive pop. But think that the offense given up for 1 guy has definately hurt. The system is similar to the GM, conservative and play it safe..Lombardi's job will be on the line if the Kings miss the playoffs. On paper I thought this team would be top 10 easily in the league.

Working just as well for the Caps Did Ovie have an "equipment" issue last night or did he just walk out on his teammates? My guess is the 2nd one..and they will never win anything with him as Captain.

LA has the goaltending to play a bit more open, lose in PHX tonight and a deal almost certainly has to be made

If they could......... Ovie would be gone. But at 9.5 million for the next 75 years, nobody is going to touch him.

Don't know why these stupid GM's do it.......... show me one long term contract, greater than 5 years that has been beneficial for the team
