I agree, but the only problem with that line of thinking, is that it would have ruled out the Whitney - Kunitz/Tangradi or Goligoski - Neal/Niskanen deals lol
- rival22

I would rather those ones slip "through the system" than open the door to the Staal to the Leafs for Kadri, Connolly, and Gustavsson style proposals.

Already hearing Nash being linked to the Rags. They do play with a salary cap too, right??

Hockeybreak says Nash has to waive and playing in a big market is not his style. Rangers have the ability to burry deals in the minors. Not sure what their package would center around and I'm not real familiar with their prospects. Any ideas?

If the Jackets were smart and this Rangers stuff has legs, Marc Staal would be the first name I brought up.

Hockeybreak not Mckenzie sorry. Staal would have to be the major piece for Nash.
And why does the media assume a team wants Jack Johnson? I never really been impressed with him and I may consider trading borderline top 6 player for him but not anyone of real significance

Good but I wonder how usefull he will be now. A tough guy with 2 concussions within less than a year sounds dangerous. Ray needs to go find more grit. Hope it comes soon I'm real bored with this trade deadline.

With Stoll and Penner's contracts running out, I think the Kings should be aggressive on Nash. What better situation to trade Bernier than for a bonafide superstar.

Nash Kopitar and Brown would be a damn good line.
Johnson Bernier and a 1st?

I think that would be close to fair on both ends. The Kings cant keep both goalies and they know that, so trading Bernier is really a wash, the 1st round pick is a whatever to them right now. And Johnson is a guy that can eat minutes and overall play a good game.

The Jackets need a goalie, Bernier is as good of a young guy to take a chance on. 1st round pick is useful to a rebuilding team. And Johnson like I said, can eat minutes for them and not hurt them at all.

Nice proposal IMO. Perhaps even throw in Gagne (no idea by the way with who has a NTC or LTC).

i definitely think that is a decent value. i just feel like losing nash hurts the jackets just so much as a franchise. even if just totally scrapping is technically in their best interest, that fan base needs something to hang its hat on, and nash has been the only thing in that category for a while

And still improves LA's team as well. I am willing to bet Columbus keeps Nash though.

Yup, I do agree. Nash is their figure head and the star player the fans can indeed hang their hat on. But do they want the fan favorite, or for their team to ever be competitive again. I really like the LA idea.

They gotta pull the plug IMO. It should be mutual at this point.

Caps blew chunks last night. Without Backstrom they are terrible and he is not even skating yet. I think they are going no where this year without him.
- powerhouse

Agreed that the Caps aren't going anywhere without Backstrom, but they've actually competed pretty well in his absence (and in Ovechkin's absence for the 3 game suspension). They were outclassed last night, though.

yeah i do see where youre coming from. trading carter and nash now for good youth, combined with their own ineptitude over the next 2 or so years would net so many top end draft choices that even that franchise should find a decent core. id just worry that by the time that happens, no one would care. not trying to criticize the columbus fan base, im just saying some teams dont have the luxury of fans willing to endure rebuild after rebuild

Yeah then they will spend the next 10 years looking for another superstar when they already have one. Nash has been a good team player and I guess your right maybe they reward him for that. I'd like to see him go to a contender in the West if he is moved.

The problem is Carter is not going to net them a decent return compared to what they gave up. They are taking a net loss on that one no matter what.

It really is a shame that a guy like Nash is having prime years wasted in that mess in Columbus.

The problem for the Jackets is that they really do not have any other piece that can net them a solid return. They really do need a total rebuild.
