I think once Depres get re-conditioned in WBS from the injury, he should seriously be considered. He played very well so far and there's no reason to play a slumping player just because of his paycheck.

Picard and Lovejoy are options too, but Depres is more threatening to the other D men, since they know his future w/ Pens in certain, but the usual bottom 3 defensemen's aren't.

The best option IMO ever since last year, is to dump Martin's contract ASAP via trade. Hopefully with the current desparation for Dmen in trade market somebody will pick him up. If Carter and Kaberle can be traded, Martin most certainly can too.

Sure. Martin can be traded, but is there anyone here that seriously thinks Despres is a better option in the post season? Martin's numbers were down last year. Stats-wise, he put up decent numbers with the Devils, but he's never been much of an offensive threat. So that general criticism is misplaced. He's a great skater and posses a good stick. He hasn't looked Martinesque this year, granted. But the team collectively is only +11 in the +/- column. This team wasn't good collectively defensively for long stretches of this season. Injuries played a part certainly, but Martin was hardly the problem.

why on earth would Edmonton resign Andy Sutton. With all the blue-liners they have under contract already next year and how terrible they are this year, why wouldn't you take the opportunity to make a few changes? Tambo must have graduated with honors from the the Mike Milbury GM on-line certification program.

This. Despres, Morrow, et all obviously have tons of talent, but they lack experience. Anyone remember how erratic Kris Letang was as a rookie? How about Goligoski? Ryan Whitney anyone? Despres may be better than all of them in 2 or 3 years, but putting a rookie D man into the Stanley Cup pressure cooker over an experienced D man like Martin isn't likely to happen on Shero's watch...

Caps blew chunks last night. Without Backstrom they are terrible and he is not even skating yet. I think they are going no where this year without him.

It's going to be interesting to watch them down the stretch and see if Hunter can keep them going. Ovechkin just passed Backstrom for the team scoring lead--and Backstrom has been out a month. Ouch.

Mike Green being gone most of the year only compounds their issues as well. Another troubling sign for the Caps is, when you start Holtby, and you're fighting to get in/stay in the top 8, it speaks to your goaltending situation. Are the other 2 hurt?

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger

As discussed on TSN Countdown show last night...Oilers talking to Hemsky to gauge the term and $ he's looking for. Trade still likely

The number that popped in my head about what it would cost to resign him was $6.5... After looking at some other players, that would get him right around Dion Phaneuf, and a little under Chara & Doughty. Sounds about right...

Problem is, that they can't extend him until after next season. Guys like Suter & Weber could inflate that market a bit between now and then.

Until the new CBA is resolved I think it is really tough to predict. I know Shero doesn't like the long term deals but he might have to give Letang more years in order to keep the salary number down.

Lol... honestly though, he's at $2.3 right now. As far as negotiations go, you can't really fault him or his agent for setting the starting point high.

All I know, is that I want Shero to extend him before he gets to that UFA off season. There will be a team or two that would offer crazy money/term for a guy like him.

Latest from Eklund has Pens in on Visnovsky. Hmm... That could be a real domino starter I would think.

Wonder what would go the other way? Maybe Teemu is included in that package.
