I know that Snider insists the team won't pursue any marquee names in free agency, but I still think that Holmgren realizes the D corps is built to win now and the forward corps is now probably a couple years away. To keep the Cup window open in 2011-12, I think they need one more impact forward. The club has 59 goals (Carter and Richards combined total from last season) to replace as best as possible. Yes, the team upgraded in goal and added a pair of forwards with high-end potential but that's a lot of offense to make up right away.

Plus its a good bet that Giroux and Jvr will get most of the attention from other team's top D pair, and it might not be that easy for Giroux and Jvr this year.

not as much as you think Bill. Versteeg had 7 for Flyers.... he is likely to get 22ish, Schenn should pull in 15, so after that you just ask Giroux (26), JVR (21) Simmonds (14) and Vorachek (14) to score 5 more goals each this year, and that makes up for the loss of not just Carter and Richards, but Leino too...

Do you think that they may already be able to make up some of those goals just by simply increasing the playing time of players like Giroux, JVR, Briere... etc. No carter and richards means more time to go around. their totals would be sure to go up. not to mention whatever Voracek, Schenn, and Simmonds contribute. Having Bryz would only decrease the number of goals given up, so that should be factored as well.
