Sorry, thats not a realistic proposal at all.

Versteeg is an average 2nd, above average third liner. He's definitely worth his salary. I'm all for keeping him at this point.

I dont think he should be shopped. But if Tallon wan'ts him back that bad and is willing to move down in the draft, it can be done. But I think moving up those 5 valuable spots is worth more then Versteeg.

I can see Versteeg getting traded for one of Floridas many 2nd round picks . But I dont think he's apart of a deal to move up to 3.

People hear the Landeskog/Richards comparison, and with the acquistion of this pick, they automatically assume theres a way that they can use an asset (Carle/Steeg) to move up that high to get him. When really, its not all that realistic.

This is probably the worst day for me to be saying ANY of this , but I stand by this. Steeg is not worth moving up that high. But I think theres a deal to be made there.

I consider it a lateral move though. If we trade Steeg, were just gonna have to sign a similar player to play in the top nine in FA. It helps us add a pick, but who knows. Well see.

EDIT: And to clear up the cap thing, the player that Florida would draft would likely get an NHL entry level contract right away. If its Landeskog, he makes the team, and that counts against the cap. There is no bonus cushion.

I disagree, what would it take to get the 3rd in your opinion? I am curious.

8th, 3rd rounder, Steeg.

Ideally, the Flyers should try and acquire another lower first round pick, such as Ottawa, who I believe has picks 7 and 21.

2012 2nd, 2011 3rd, Rights to Dan Carcillo to Ottawa

8th, 21st, Steeg for 3rd.

Thats more realistic. These are just shot out of the cannon deals. They may be a bit of an overpayment, so ideally, if a deal were to be made, its probably somewhere in the middle of what your thinking and what I'm thinking. But Steeg and the 8th for the third is not enough.

Put it this way, if Tallon takes that deal, Homer should drive Steeger to the airport himself, because he's absolutely raping him.

For as much Versteeg and the 8th for the 3rd baffles you the fact that you think any team would give up a late first for this baffles me 10x more.

Why does that Baffle you? Ottawa gets a 2nd round pick pick out of it (which could end up being a lower first next year), a 3rd this year (which area really low-tier 2nd round guys since almost anyone projected for the 2nd round could go in the first), and the rights to Carcillo, a player Ottawa could really use to round out their bottom six.

Is it the ideal deal? Maybe not. But I'm shootin poop at 2am. I said its not exactly accurate. The point is the 21st pick is not all that hard to acquire, and if you package that with Versteeg, your more likely to get the 3rd.

Unless some other big deal is made, that might be about the best we could hope for. But boy do we look small down the middle. Matching up with teams like the Pens just got a lot tougher.

You're trading 2 1st round picks and Versteeg for the 3rd overall? That's ludicrous, why in the hell would you pay that much?

Idk, just a 2nd and a 3rd plus a career 4th liner every ref in the league hates for a 1st doesn't make sense to me.

Whereas practically giving the Panthers a young, 20 goal guy to move up only 5 spots and shed cap seems a lot more practical for both sides.

Just tossing some ideas together. Instead of Hall or Talbot, they could go with Konopka as the 4th line center.

That would be great, a guy who can win most faceoffs and is gritty, a tough guy for the team, I like that idea.

There are other options. If they trade Bobrovsky, and don't have to pay through the nose for Simmonds and Voracek, they have a lot of wiggle room to add veterans for those key 3rd and 4th line roles

Not in this lifetime chum. Players like Carcillo are a dime a dozen. If anything, Ottawa will try to package the 21st with another pick or two to move up, but we def aren't trading it for a plug, a 2nd and a 3rd.

True, although I don't want Konopka. It's the size on the top two lines that worry me. Both centers combined might weigh less than Malkin.

Chum? Cmon bro. Its a hypothetical deal. Like I said, I'm just shootin the poop at 3am.

The real concept is just getting a low first and packaging it with Steeg to move up 5 spots. Thats all. It doesn't even have to be with Ottawa.
