I'm on board with what Holmgren did yesterday. I see the reason why it was done.

Flyers finally have a legit # 1 goaltender, that's what everyone has been clamoring for. Unfortunately in the enormity of what happened yesterday it kind of gets lost in the sauce.

2 things.

A. Please do not draft Ryan Murphy. I know he has a ton of talent, but a dman that small in stature doesn't translate to the NHL game in 2011 and going forward.

B. With the offense lost in the short term, there is a ton of minutes to be picked up for everyone. Under no circumstance is it ok having Jody Shelley on the 4th line now. He's serves zero purpose before the trades, and now with the void the Flyers have offensively Shelley playing 5 minutes a game providing nothing is no longer a luxury the Flyers can afford. There are tons of useful players who can do much more than he can at a fraction of the cap hit.

If Shelley is on this roster opening night I'm going to go berserk.

Brad could get just as much here as in NY and TOR, no? Do another front-loaded deal. Snider can afford it.

Also, he should prefer to join us rather than two mediocre teams unless he really loved Torch that much.

The D is built to win now. The forward corps is now built to win a few years down the road. Adding B Richards and a defense prospect would better bridge that gap.

anyone else you would like to see besides the very expensive b richards? because i'm worried about the gap between the F and the D/G now

13 months ago i was worried about the exact opposite

i was ok with the thought of losing ONE of our centers
losing two has me munching tums today

but if the Flyers get B. Richards or Stamkos I think this team is better than the team from last year. Not saying they get either, but it seems Holmgren and the Flyers have a master plan here.

No way they would trade both that quickly without something in place.

he's the #1 forward available in free agency. someone is going to overpay for him.

I don't think anyone here is interested in Leino at $4mm.

For the love of Christ... people need to drop the Gagne thing already.

Well, that's one reason.

That would make the most sense, logically.

Larsson is 2 years (tops) from playing in the NHL. He wants to play few more season in elitserien. By that time, Timonen will be coming off the cap, hopefully both carle and coburn have been resigned. Larsson would jump in perfectly.

Is there another forward, or two, who would be as efficient at bridging that gap as Richards would be?

I see he is listed at 5'10" 166. What is he more around? And shouldnt he fill out a bit?

Here's to hoping we get him.

Without a doubt. I really don't think money will be an issue. It will come down to where he prefers to play.

The Flyers would either have to deal Versteeg or elect not to resign Leino but then, yes, they could pay just as much as the other clubs.

I'm sure he will fill out. But 5'10" is miniscule for a Dman in today's NHL. And I doubt he is going to get any taller.

You would think so given our roster in comparison to NY and TOR.
