I also wanted dougie.. but we got Courtier (sp). he has loads of talent and can be a player in this league.
- flyfan1212

Hamilton would have been an excellent pick, but you can't pass up Couturier at number 8.

Betts is one of the best 4th line centers in the league.
- Ferrarimn7

Eh, that's highly debatable.

He's serviceable. Solid on the PK. But a dime a dozen player.

Love everything the Habs have done to improve their team so far.

Oh, wait...

Betts and Powe cracked the line up of a team in the Final just one year ago.
- Jsaquella

They wouldn't crack either one that made it this year. I can live with Powe but Betts is a waste of space at this point. He is slow, injury prone, can't win draws. He is also a PUSS* on a team trying to get tougher. Bring in Hall and waive Betts. No one will claim her.

Yep. Got David Fischer written all over him. Danny Syvret was an All Tourney D-man, too...he's going to be starring in Germany next winter
- Jsaquella

David Fischer was a stay at home d type that can't score.

Nathan was best player at Mem Cup per a lot of scouts and can skate like the wind.

Wow. Calgary giving up!?
To Buffalo: Regehr, Kotalik
To Calgary: Chris Butler, 2nd round pick, and all-star PAUL BYRON!

Wow. In 3 of the deals today, 3 teams got fleeced! Smyth to Edmonton was the only fair trade!

Agree to disagree. On the whole I think he's highly underrated. He plays the tough minutes and I don't think he's a defensive liability in the least.

My bad. People make mistakes. Top 5 in the league in scoring, and he missed 10 games.

Should I continue? Over the years we've done ok with D-man via trades and the UFA market.

Yes, he is. He takes way too many risks. Makes some great plays, makes more gaffes.
- bmeltzer

I think SJ made a good deal. 6-5 ,220 right handed, strong skating top pair d-man are a rare commodity in the league. Sharks still are pretty loaded at forward. Only reservation would be the concussion issue but supposedly had no problems this season.

Well, see the Flyers have some serious issues in developing defensemen. They took 3 of them in the second round a few years ago, and not one has been at a NHL game without buying a ticket.

Couturier has a good skill set that will fill a role as well. It's hard to be upset when you land a guy who was probably a healthy start away from being a top 3 pick. 96 points in 58 games isn't too bad for a guy that battled mono at the start of the season.

Adam Hall is twice as physical, drops the gloves, is faster, much better on draws, and a better penalty killer. He can play both wing and center, can move up a line if needed, and has won a cup.

And not so well developing them. So if you can't build one, develop the forwards and trade for/sign the d.
