pretty funny how Giroux said how they hated each other in the worlds

but glad he's on the team now

- Crimsoninja

I didn't see that. I'm sure Giroux and all of the players are pretty stunned by these moves.

But Richards isn't a #1 center with a record of scoring 35+ goals.
- ggunky

No, but he's a number one center with a history of winning, and also a good two way player, excellent PK guy, plays 20 mintes a night in a multitude of roles and widely seen by the hockey world as more important than Carter to the team's success.

He also has a better playoff track record than Carter does, injuries or not

I want to see Homer bring back Knuble.
- hereticpride

he's signed for at least another year.

the media stuff is being blown out of proportion. As I have noted and it's been noted again again, it's the inconsistent results that forced these trades. Too many times the effort wasn't there when it should've been there.

The media will always find someone to pick on. Certain reporters simply enjoy making a pro athletes life miserable.

We have to wait and see. Who's to say Voracek can't be a 30 goal scorer in a few years?

A ton of people, (I'm not saying you) pissed and moaned about Carter for years now he's gone and everyone all of a sudden loves him.

- PLindbergh31

I think it may have to do with what they got in return for him. The return wasnt horrible by any means, but i think most of us thought they could have done a little better.

The one thing with these moves is the PP this year cannot be as bad as last year.

So right out of the shoot, that aspect of the team will improve by default.

And with Bryz, and the same D-core the PK may be better as well.

Despite whatever mandates Mr. Snider hands down, his main philosophy has always been to hire good people and let them do their jobs.

I've been gone for 4 years, but I think I had to come back being that the philly [dot] com forum looks like the end of the freaking world has come.

Anyhow, I hated the moves yesterday, but today they seems to make sense. I do not think they will be a contender for a few years unless a big splash is made today regarding Stamkos (whom we do not have the pick or $$ in my opinion) or Brad Richards.

I think these moves had to be made and in the long run will make the team better down the stretch.

Regarding the draft, I am excited to finally have a 1st round pick. I think we do trade down though and Adam Larsson will be drafted. Versteeg, our 8th and the 2nd from LA (2012) should be able to make that happen.

This is going to be an interesting week.

everyone? I thought the return for Richards was fair, not so for Carter. what I really question is what direction we have given our age/? marks on d and the sudden gaps in the forward group that used to be strengths. we'll see how homer finishes up.
- isaiah520

The returns were similar. Voracek was the 7th pick of the draft just 4 years ago. They got the 8th overall pick in this draft. Simmonds is a guy who is coming off a year where he took a step back as well, and he was never as highly regarded as Voracek was in his draft year.

Schenn, for all his promise has played 9 NHL games and had 2 assists. Vorcek had had 50 point seasons.

Both trades depend a lot on these guys reaching their potential.

possibilities for a 35-40 goal guy is weak, imo.
- isaiah520

Here is the way i look at it...

While its always great to have 35-40 goal guys.....

Its not a necessity... Boston had 1 player.. 1 PLAYER, hit 30 goals... Milan Lucic.

As long as the team is focused on playing a complete game, and has solid offense, defense and goaltending, they will go a long way... The flyers NOW have that.

Briere has 30 goal potential, JvR definitely has 30 goal potential, Giroux as well...
Hartnell and Steeg are both 20+ goal guys. Voracek should be able to crack 20 easily, as well as Simmonds. Schenn may also be able to hit 20 goals this season. Leino (if resigned) showed that he is capable of adding close to 20 goals.

Scoring goals should not be an issue.

That's all they really got for Richards, too.
- Jsaquella

schenn and simmonds have more bona fides than voracek and #8 in an ok draft, imo. and just like yours, it's just an opinion.

Yep. When Snider hands down mandates, they tend to be general ones. We're not going to get beat up anymore. The goalie carousel is over.

And while I am sure he had to sign off on these moves, I doubt he said that they had to go.

These moves may not be the greatest for the team, but I'd say they're terrific for the franchise.

This season will be fun, watching to see how high the team will rise instead of expecting the world while waiting to see when it'll fall on its face.

it was time for the change, the flyers divorced Carter and Richards before those longterm commitments took place. We dont see what goes on in the lockeroom and I am sure everybody from Lavy to the players were all interviewed by Homer. I am very happy with the trades and feel the organization will get stronger in the longterm.

The Richards trade is all about Schenn. If he reaches his potential, which is a big IF, the Flyers will have done extremely well. Simmonds is a nice addition to the trade. 16 goals and 24 assists 2 years ago, is nice production from a third line player.

Snider could of not signed off on any of these trades but he did. Now they have to look to the draft, trades, and UFA to finish this project off.

How so? Voracek, in three seasons, has significantly more points than Simmonds does in his three years.

Schenn is considered an excellent prospect, but they could land another excellent prospect with the 8th pick tonight.

The bona fides are roughly the same.
