If the Pens want to play with speed this is a good signing. Finishing is the question mark. Let's see how he does in the Worlds?

All in all for 775k this is a pretty straight forward signing. If the wheels fall off the solution would be pretty simplistic. He would go back to the AHL and the cap hit would be 100% buried. This is a no risk deal and a logical piece of business.

The only issue is that, since he played in the Finnish Elite league, he's viewed a "veteran" by AHL rules. You can only have six and one "exempt" veteran on the AHL team (not sure what the "exempt" means). But as longas they're mostly young kids, not an issue.

You sound like a guy who can't wait for the draft/free agency. Much like me these days.

Those limits are on who can suit up for a game, not on the roster. The WB Pens were over that limit a lot early this year before making some trades, just meant they had to scratch some experienced guys each game.

Yeah we don’t have any huge internal free agency decisions to contemplate so the news cycle in Pittsburgh is gonna be slow until teams open back up for business leading up to the draft. I am a firm believer that only heartbreak lies in free agency but I am very excited for what trades may bring.

I think a realistic goal would be for the Pens would be to win a playoff round again. Watching these playoffs I don’t think Puustinen is a great direction to go. But it’s 2 way deal so whatever.

Meh. He's ok and never bad to have a cheap contract. I think we'll be looking for an upgrade eventually unless we give in to a rebuild. Ultimately don't think he does enough, but hope he proves me wrong.

Missed the playoffs and don't even have a 1st, so not even that excited for the draft. Although not impossible a 2nd rounder cracks our top 5 prospects immediately.

I'm ready for the off-season though. Not even sure what I want the Pens to do.

Do y’all still think Malkin is better than Trochek or nah?

I'm hoping we unload Smith. I am hoping they use this playoffs as a way to build this team. We know Sullivan likes small skilled players. I am hoping more Bunting type players for this team. Maybe Domi, a trade for Bennett and E. Kane if Edmonton and Florida are looking at cap dumps

What is happening... Just back from a wedding in Mexico.

I would have been fine moving on from Puus but at that price I don't mind keeping him, either.

Canes down 0-3/Rangers being 7-0 these playoffs is nuts... But Rags were my pick to make final from East.

Why? I got roasted for saying it might be smarter to try and sign Trochek. Here we are.

Get to see Guentzel lose, Get to see Marchand get the poop kicked out of him, get to see the hometown boy Trochek blossom into the great 2 way player/agitator/scorer he is. Plus all the physicality and hatred going on in round 2. I’ll take it over the offseason.

Hates the best winger Sid ever had. Wished we had kicked our 4th best player in franchise history to the curb so that Vincent Trochek could do absolutely nothing on an aging team. I don’t question your fandom but I just do not understand how your brain works.

Yes, I'd still take Malkin. It's amazing how much overhype an average player on a great team. Prior to signing in New York, Trocheck had 1 "great" season and 1 "great" postseason. Thats it.

Beyond that, there was no evidence Trocheck would've even signed with Pittsburgh.

The Penguins have a lot of problems. Not having Trocheck and having Malkin isnt one of those problems.

Hockey is always fun. I agree with Grinder I'd rather be watching playoff hockey than to be in the offseason with none being played at all. However, as far as playoffs go, of the 8 first round series, 5 of them were only 5 games, or less, and only 2 of them went to 7 games. Bit duddy in my opinion.

Yeah but doesn’t change that Trochek is a better hockey player at this point.
