I love the idea of best on best world competition but the IIHF and IOC are about as corrupt as it gets.

Olympic hockey is only great if NHL players participate and then it most definitely is "must see" hockey!

This. The FIFA refs have nothing on these even after being busted taking payoffs to call penalties at the World Cup

My only follow up is, if it’s must see why aren’t people watching? Do the costs and NHL shutdowns justify the scenario? For some that answer may be yes and viewership of the Olympics may not be the important point. It’s fair to debate for sure, but if a CMD or Matthews gets hurt and misses extended time does that affect the impression?

NHL has not participated since 2014, I son't care about the rest of the events.

Unfortunately a growing number don’t care about the rest in both summer and winter. The NHL needs exposure and growth. Without that I’d still be fine with non NHL at the Olympics. If there’s a net loss/negative impact on the league I’ll be right back to not really wanting to see the NHL shut down for this.

Well we haven’t had best on best in a long time and other than that the accessibility and time zone the Olympics are in play a major role.

I’m having a rough reading time today (headache stuff). Is it fair to sum up that your point is the return of the NHL could be a substantial pivot to Olympic viewing? Honestly asking, and you and H2 could well be right. Just let me know if I’m interpreting that correctly

It will certainly help but the Italy time difference certainly complicates things.

Ok. Thanks for clarification. If I could go to any Olympics Italy is at the top. Art, food, architecture. Gorgeous country.

Time difference does factor in on these things. Good add. Thanks

I forgot to add. There are many (including players) who are on the same page as you. There’s nothing wrong with the take. Thanks for dropping that in

Mlive calling the mood about lotto for Detroit “lethargic”. I think that’s an oversell. Without going down that rabbit hole, the bingo balls don’t bounce for Detroit

I used to enjoy watching the Olympics and seeing sports I don't normally follow.

Now it's a corrupt, leftwing organization that leaves host cities with a pile of debt and unused infrastructure. I refuse to support that, especially at random hours of the day/night. NHL should boycott and host their own World Cup event.

We’ll see, but John Buccigross tweeted out a pic of the final lottery results. He quickly deleted it but I snapped a screenshot. He had:
SJ
Utah
Chicago
Ana
Colum
Mont
Ott
Sea
Cal
NJ
Buff
Phil
MN
Pitt
Det
Stl

Posting it just in case it was real

It was absolutely identical except Utah moved down 5 spots. It looks like they made one quick switch after the hockey media posted the final results.

BTW, that’s 7 consecutive years of Detroit either moving down or staying the same. It is interesting to me that in the NBA lottery, the results are usually nothing like the odds that the lottery teams have. It’s always all over the place. The NHL lottery usually has a few moves into the top 5 (NYR twice, Chi, etc) but after that, the results are usually identical to the odds.

Right? It seems to defy “luck”. I posted a new write up and will be going through the player rankings this week. Since 2019 I’ve personally only been “right” once and I wasn’t even right. When Detroit got Edvinsson I’d written that he was the player I’d love to have but doubted he’d be available. Still love the big kid, hoping he keeps working on his edges, physical play and gets better clearing the puck on the PK. Rockford was a nightmare for GR’s PK and Power Play. Someone chime in, but in 4 games I don’t think the Griffs scored once on the power play. But, they did have multiple goals on the delay at 6 on 5.

Pretty much every league does it better than the NHL. The NBA has much different odds percentages. The MLB has parameters that prevents teams from picking top 10 in back to back seasons.
