The Jets have to move Myers now if we want Stastny. Mason and Kulikov are un-tradeable, Perreault is a massive value deal, and they’ll never be ballsy enough to move Little before his NTC kicks in.

Id also be moving Armia, Tanev, and even someone like Lemieux.
The first two are at their absolute peak right now, have younger and better players stuck below them, and will never have a market value this high again.
Lemieux still has the benefit of name recognition, so he should be moved before anyone really picks up on how ungood he is.

If you can walk into the season with this lineup, things will be looking good:

Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler
Laine-Stastny-Roslovic
Perreault-*Little*-Ehlers
Copp-Lowry-Dano
*Petan*

Morrissey-Trouba
Niku-Byfuglien
Kulikov-Poolman
Morrow

Hellebuyck
Mason

The ** signifies where Petan would be if Little was moved. Dano is just a better fit for that Lowry line, due to his hitty, puck possession style.

I like what Stasny did but don't think the Stasny stars line up and I don't think we need him next year. He's not a big step up from Little, Laine/Ehlers will find chemistry another way, make some space for the youth movement to continue and set Stasny free. I don't see Little being moved before July 1st either, maybe if there was a rift between him and Wheeler/Buff or colateral from Enstrom departure.

We will see where the cap lands but this will be a stay the course team... and it will look genius if they have another winning season.

Agreed. Bad trade.

The more and more I look at the Jets situation the more and more I realize that one of Perreault or Little or both are gone. Perreault has a NTC and Little's kick's in on July 1st. Jets definitely want Statsny so I think you could see him sign here this week. in the 5's. Love to get rid of Little's contract. Roslovic on the rise so as unpopular a move it would be with some Jets in trading Little , it is a business in the end.

I think Chevy should think about it this way. Even if we gave up Little for practically nothing we gain a better player in Stastny for basically free at a similar price. Its a wash but the Jets improve. However, I do think we could get something for Little even if its just a decent prospect.

One thing to consider. The Lightning are meeting with Tavares. If Tavares signs with the Lightning, they may be looking at moving Tyler Johnson. He may be a good fit for the Jets second line.

I agree - sell high on Lemieux.

Massive overpay.
- bennythehat

Not an overpay at all. Karlsson is in the same category as Crosby, Ovechkin, McDavid, Stamkos, and Kucherov. In fact, I think the Jets would be ripping off the Senators if the Sens took that deal.

Kinda tough to sell high on Lemieux. He might be worth an 8th round pick at best which is about the same as Dano. Might as well just keep him for the Moose.

I would be very careful before anointing Niku as your top four defenseman. I think he needs another year to marinate in the AHL before he gets called up. Myers looked good on the left side of Byfuglien.

Perreault may be the guy I am trading away for picks. The man misses 20 games a year and was invisible in the playoffs.

I think Lemieux impresses this year at camp. He could easily make Tanev expendible. Could also save the Jets a cool million if he plays. Tanev would most likely want between 1.5 and 2 million, whereas Lemieux could be had at an ELC.

Any chance that we get back a player for Myers/Armia/Tanev ?
If not, maybe we should trade Dano and Petan. Surely, the return on those 2 would be astounding !

A signed Karlsson would be a different story.

Obviously that trade would not happen unless he signed an 8 year contract.

I think Stastny is on the downward end of his career. With Stastny, I say buyer beware.

27yo and locked up at 5m/season until 23/24. Good value for someone. Do they do that trade for non-roster pieces? What are they looking for in return?

if the Islanders lose Taveras there may be interest there in Little to be reunited with his pal Ladd? could we include Kulikov and get Pulock and pick? that would be swell.

I agree, signing stastny over 2 years scares the hell out of me!! I had suggested Myers for Johnson a while back, I still like the idea of it. but not sure Tampa would want any salary, they ask for Roslovic or Vessalainen and I don't like that.

Maybe. I think Montreal makes the most sense for a deal with the Jets. Montreal is very weak at center after Domi. Ship Perreault or Little over there along with Petan and Kulikov. That solves Montreal problem at center and our problem with the cap. I'd be happy if we got Pacioretty and either some draft picks or a left-handed defence prospect .

Vesalainen is completely unproven as of yet. There are no guarantees on the kid . Heck Puljujarvi really hasn't even shown much yet after two seasons with the Oilers. Bottom line is he is expendable in any trade for a talented player who is a good fit for the Jets.

Niku is ready. He was the best dman at the second highest level of play. He’ll be even better this year. Myers is completely incapable of playing his off side, especially in the defensive zone (an argument can be made that he can’t play in the defensive zone at all, tbh).

You trade Myers. His value will never be higher, he’s VERY overpaid, and he’s blocking Poolman.

You do not trade Perreault. He’s making way less than he’s worth, missed games or not.

No. The idea is not to. Myers is replaced by Poolman, Armia and Tanev are replace by two of Petan, Dano, and Roslovic.

You can probably get Edmonton’s 1st and 3rd for all 3

Puljujarvi has been quietly excellent in Edmonton. Great underlying numbers.

I am looking forward to seeing Niku but I wouldn’t use “best defenceman in 2nd highest league” argument! Have you seen the list of past winners? Extremely underwhelming!!

He’s 22. He wasn’t dominant for long stretches, and looked good during his call-up. I’ve been cheerleading Niku since 2015. He’ll be fine.

20 pts in 65 games, 12 goals and 8 assists. He is big, 6 4, 211 and I like his skating.

I think there’s lots of upside to come from this kid.
