Tanking can work if you have a competent gm. Edmonton has tanked and somehow has a barren prospect pool and an extremely shallow line up. Defense is suspect, no goaltending, only 1 line on offense and somehow in cap hell.

What are the odds that Bergevin comes back next year? And given how persnickety Montreal is about who they hire (you have to check a lot of boxes to be a candidate, don't you?), who gets the job if they do can him?

He should of been fired 3 years ago. I'm going to side step Montreal being Montreal and I would be interested in Paul Fenton from Nashville or futa (who was a final candidate for the Toronto job) who is with the kings.

Yeah. Basically, the oilers misssd on some of those high picks and almost all of the subsequent ones. New gm signs crappy slow guys and here you are. It's really amazing. 10 years they sucked and you can't sort it out.

I think they have to can him. The fans are irate, but like you say, they can only hire French gms and coaches so that severely limits them. The subban and sergachev trades are enough to can bergevin. I wouldn't let him make one more trade.

Fenton played for 4 Canadian teams so maybe. He's American though. Mike Futa is Canadian born in Toronto and has worked for clubs there. So guessing yes.

Probably saw our log jam down the middle. Maybe the flyers asked him to move to wing and he wasn't willing. Who knows. Everyone seems to think his peak is a 4th liner or tweener. But he will get a legit shot with edmonton. With our depth down the middle I didn't see him over taking anyone for a center spot at the nhl level.
