I've been on the opposite side of expansion to Seattle for some time, I don't think it's the right place but given the absence of an NBA team (at least for the time being) this could be something that works if the tickets are priced right. Let's clarify that, the tickets have to be priced right for revenue not for sales. The NHL is still a gate d - Peter Tessier
WTF
Hard to take you seriously when you say stuff like this
(and fyi the seattle group is using the NHL as a stepping stone to ALSO bringing in an nba team down the road) |

I have been going to Seattle for my whole life. I know it well. It’s a funny sports town and no one has made any serious NHL push ever. The NBA and NHL are based on having an arena. That’s done. The NHL wants another team NBA is uncertain AFAIK. I admitted I was wrong not sure why that bothers you? |

Quit trying to bully Pete. This is a NON BULLY thread, OK?
Pete, I thought your write up was informative on Seattle and the aftermath of the trade deadline. |

Great job Charlie Dog! I am glad you have chosen yourself to be one of the protectors of people being bullied. Very courageous of you!
On the other hand I am super pumped for this game tonight. Even got my lucky Winnipeg Jets socks on....
GO JETS GO!!!
I may have misread Elliot's 31 thoughts but was he looking at a center on the Jets or thinking about combining the Jets pick as part of a package to land a center. Please clarify, Pete. |

This is where I disagree. Seattle Metropolitans of the PCHA played there. In the 70s (dont remember the exact year) Seattle was in the running for an NHL or WHA franchise. And they came close. Tom Abbey got an NHL expansion bid but turned out to be more of hotshot sweet-talking lawyer than a financial economist.
And since then the only issue has been an area. Key Arena was never adequate and outside of Hansen, there hasn't been a strong leadership group with a vision for renovation. That doesn't mean hockey has died. There are number of well attended WHL franchises in the Seattle area. When I lived there, I had buddies who would go up to see canucklhead games (and you had them coming down to see seahawks). The recent drive just showed that seattle only lacked a strong leadership group - nothing else in terms of fanbase. Sure football will always be king, but even the MLS expansion sounders showed how quickly the sport can be adopted.
If you think in terms of the larger reason, the entire west coast didn't have a team till the Canucks/Kings in the 70s. And given Seattle's numerous attempts, I've always considered them a logical candidate for an NHL team EVEN ABOVE Vegas. Its pretty incredible to think they did in half an hour what it took Vegas a month to do: get up to 10,000 deposits for ST. And it makes sense: as a metro region seattle is far stronger than vegas and also has more of a sports culture. |

Don't give a sh_t about Seattle .. good on em, etc ... evens out the Conferences - ok fine ... I'm old school and would like to see the Nordiques back
That loss against Preds was the best wake up call for our boys ... I was there - twice the fans are still cheering and Preds walk in and score back ... SIXTY (60) minutes in a game, boys ... that wasn't a playoff type game but very close so it will only become more important ... SIXTY ! ... 3 periods, 20 full minutes each, that's 60 ... s-i-x-t-y
Will be at game tonight - my last one till (IF) playoffs ... Jets gone beginning of March, Mexico awaits me last part of March
Most fired up to see Stastny centre the youngsters ... should we be resting Helle ? ... I'd put in Hutch tonight - gotta keep him sharp too .... Preds was not Helle's finest - donut wanna get him down and remove a chance to show back up but ... it is the Wings |

You were in the running until you dropped the ball on the Kovalchuk scouting report. You are probably so young that you fell asleep before the OAR game even started, very disappointed in you! |

I think the Seattle Grunge will do well.
Anyone know when Mason will return?
Byfuglien has been playing as well as Myers was during the first half. Be nice to see everything come together on D before the playoffs.

Not sure what you are up in arms about. Peter manned up and said he was wrong on Seattle. He didn't say they can''t do it or shouldn't do it. They haven't hada serious push before as you have stated. No one in Winnipeg is upset about Seattle getting a franchise. There are more hoping for further expansion to Hamilton or Quebec City.

Offside Rexy - Denis Beyak is really quite good at his job... it is not his job to analyze and critique - I am sure he has many opinions that never make it to air. He is a pro to be learned from. |

I think it will be educational for the young guns to play with Statsny. You could already see the other nite, Stastny was nodding his head at Laine to move a certain direction so I think these young guns are going to get a crash course education from Stastny. When they interviewed Stastny, not only is this guy a gifted hockey player, he is a well versed and intelligent hockey mind as well.
I think Helle will be in net tonite, you know, get back in the saddle asap after getting bucked off type of scenario, but I do hope that they squeeze Hutch in there as well to give Helle a break and get him really itchin to play. |
