With everyone healthy, a cheap Sheahan (Letestu) 3C would add so much to the roster. If the Pens wanted to they could run...
Simon-Sid-Sprong
Hags-Geno-Horny
Guentzel-Letestu-Kessel
Kuhn-Sheahan-Rust
And basically Simon, Sprong, Guentzel, Rust, whoever they could all shift anywhere in the lineup, except Kuhn, cause he blows. But the rest of that roster could play anywhere. - j.boyd919

I was running numbers on armchair GM the other day and if I’m remembering correctly I’m pretty sure we could fit Letestu and Kane at half retained by just sending out Cole, Reaves, and then sending guys down. Not super realistic, but would kick ass if it happened! |

Just 1 center changes so much for the bottom 6. Guentzel showing he's a competent PKer means they no longer need guys like Kuhnhackl and Rowney. |

Awesome, yes... but I dont think buffalo wants Cole. And no one wants Reaves lol.
Sheary+ still makes the most sense to me for Kane. I wouldnt want to give up more than a 3rd for Letestu |

I dunno, I've read Yohe say that he doesn't expect Reaves to be in the lineup come playoff time. |

my gut feel is that our 3rd line C will be a little more out of left field.... like Tierney or Backlund. |

I'm ok with Letestu at a cheap acquisition price...but guys like Pageau are a dime a dozen. In an ideal world, someone internally like Blueger or Johnson would make an adequate 4C. So instead of trying to get a center and a wing, JR could use all our assets for a top tier top 6 wing.
Sheahan should be an adequate for 3rd C if hes playing with better wingers.

From Mackeys article on PPG..
“It’s a little tighter at this point than other seasons, but there are still players out there that are available,” Rutherford said. “Are they the right fit? Does that improve our team? Those things all get factored in.
“At this point in time, there’s not somebody out there that can improve our team.”

Keeps bringing me back to the Pens riding the season out with this roster and reevaluate in the offseason.
Not to rehash the Jake argument, but the Pens played their best hockey when he was at 3C. I think they need to stick with that.

DeSmith starting again tonight. He's been good, but so was Jarry for the most part. Sullivan says he is just riding the hot hand, but I thought Jarry was playing pretty good too. Probably nothing, but got my mind wondering if maybe they were trying to showcase that they have 3 solid goalies. |

Maybe they’re giving teams a look at DeSmith as a deadline piece? |

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Either that or there is a deal being discussed involving Jarry and they are keeping him out for insurance.
It's an interesting situation. DeSmith is the oldest out of our 3 goalies and he is a UFA in 2 years whereas the other 2 will still be RFAs at their next contract. He's played good in the AHL and is now having a real good start up in the NHL.

DeSmith has been great. I love it when a player takes advantage of his "big chance". I think he's been positionally sound while still being aggressive. |

I hope the coaching staff acknowledges that re: Guentzel at C. Obviously it doesn’t maximize G the individual player, but if Rutherford is going to sit on his hands/nothing comes up in the center trade market, it’s imperative Sullivan roll G at C because it maximizes the team.
If nothing at C comes up, I would, however, like Ruth to go out and get a top 9 LW. Shouldn’t be too hard. But with Hags playing like he has lately, that no longer seems super imperative. |

From Mackey today. GMJR said they like their goaltending depth and have no intention of trading any of them. |

Well there we go. It makes sense, obviously holding onto goalie depth has served them well.
Big game tonight. Pens have a chance to put a little bit of distance between them and Carolina with a win tonight. No Aho for Carolina either, so that should help. |

Just read the DK article on Haggerty from yesterday. Man does he have a shot! Supposedly good speed, good all-around game (defensive, board work, etc.), decent size. Might be a good candidate for 4RW next year. |
